Hi everyone, welcome to the Redefining Rest Podcast. I’m Marissa McKool, a former public health leader turned life and career coach. I am on a mission to get YOU more rest and eliminate your burnout. I created this show, especially for early-mid career professionals with an MPH degree who are stressed and overwhelmed.

On this podcast, I’m going to show you how increasing your rest is 100% in your control and doesn’t require you to go through the dreaded job search.

What is creating your stress and preventing you from more rest, isn’t your boss, your job, your to-do list, or even the field itself. It is your unexamined beliefs about rest, productivity, and worth. Our society and the public health workforce promotes narrow and false ideas that rest is a reward for productivity, rest is for the deserving, and rest has to be earned. And that productivity creates your feelings, determines your worth and value to the world. Carrying these beliefs around is exactly why you are hustling for your worth and denying yourself opportunities for rest.

Each week I will be teaching you how to undo these beliefs so you can get sustainable rest, create more time, reduce your workload, and feel better. Learning how to free yourself from these unhelpful internalized expectations is the most important and powerful professional tool you will ever learn!

It will allow you to break down internal barriers, achieve goals you never thought were possible, and enjoy and love yourself and your life.

Together, we will redefine how the public health workforce practices rest so we can do more good in the world without having to compromise our own wellbeing, wealth, or goals.

Because rest isn’t finite, it’s infinite. Rest is your right, you don’t have to earn it…you just have to learn how to take it.
