Insomnia? Mind racing at night? Worries keeping you up? Tune in for a bedtime story that lets you forget your problems and progressively gets more boring until you fall to sleep. So get in bed, press play, close your eyes, and drift off into dreamland.
The goal of the Sleep With Me podcast is a simple one. Host and creator Drew Ackerman has a voice that puts people to sleep. And he's proud of that fact. Ackerman, nicknamed Dearest Scooter, created this podcast with a simple concept. He tells adults bedtime stories to help them fall asleep.
Ackerman has battled with insomnia issues since he was a kid. He had the "Sunday scaries" and other anxiety issues. So he would listen to the Dr. Demento late-night comedy radio show when he couldn't sleep. He said it didn't help him sleep, but it did relax and make him feel better. Sometimes, Ackerman and his brother would tell each other their bedtime stories so they would fall asleep. In 2012, Ackerman created the Sleep With Me podcast to help others fall asleep.
While the Sleep With Me podcast tells bedtime stories, it doesn't treat the adults like kids. There is no baby talk here. The host tells stories grownups can understand, but not get too excited about. The point is to get them to fall asleep, after all. Ackerman jokes, "One scary thing for me is, like, 'How boring am I really?'" But that is his job, after all. Ackerman has a funny but rambling storytelling style. And he goes into very long, lulling details to help listeners get a good night's sleep.
Some sleep experts say that establishing an evening routine for unwinding can help people fall asleep faster. So many fans of the Sleep With Me podcast have this show as part of their evening relaxation routine. Most episodes last over an hour long. But Ackerman won't get offended if people fall asleep before the end of his stories. That is his job, after all. This podcast has new episodes every week and "best of" episodes.
