Addiction comes in many forms. Most of them are difficult to conceal. Whether it’s drugs, alcohol, or gambling, the outward effects of addiction are often easily visible to the family, friends, and coworkers of the addict. However, porn addiction—the compulsive dependence on pornography that interferes with the ability to function—can remain largely undetected. And yet the fallout is quite real. In addition to the shame and guilt one might feel, there is also the risk of the inability to perform sexually without porn, alienation of spouses and partners, and disconnection from relationships, work, or other activities. The advent of high-speed internet has kicked the problem into overdrive, as addicts now have access to a nearly unlimited stream of addictive resources.

In this episode, we speak with coach, author and speaker Joshua Shea. Josh specializes in the realm of addiction, with a particular focus on pornography addiction. He addresses the concerns not only of those with a porn addiction, but also the issues that come with being a partner of a porn addict, and raising children in the age of high-speed internet access. Josh has been pornography-free since March 2014, and he believes that if we can begin to talk more about porn addiction and mental health, we'll see rates of addiction drop.

Because the topic is sex, many folks are reluctant to have a frank discussion around the mental health implications of this disease. But this is a vital conversation that we need to be having. We hope you’ll find our talk with Josh to be revealing and informative. So let’s get on the road!
