Yes I have been sitting on this mix for two weeks now without uploading. OOPS! Sometimes you just have to live life as it comes to you and stay away from the computer. I've been having an epic time out here in the Mojave Desert in and out of Joshua Tree National Park. Making lots of new friends and spending good times with old ones.This mix is a cut of the first half of my live set for my friend Zircon's birthday memorial party. He would have LOVED this stuff! I started out the night with some good progressive vibey tracks, some funky Miami vibe house tracks, plenty of old jams that are always best played at night. This set cut ends with i_o - No Sleep - that is actually the transition track from the first half of the night to the next. This set really ends with the second to last track. BUT - No Sleep is such a favorite - and the mix in to it is absolutely absurd. It's my favorite time of the year again, musically - when my big trance mix comes out. Always worth the wait, and for me the only mix I do all year that I don't easily forget. This is another mix with a few years of tracks that have been percolating, and some from long long ago that I've never had the right context for. Last year I swayed to the dark side with hard techno and some total banger tracks - not much from this years mix would have worked back then. But now the time for techno has passed and I am fully releasing the energy! Resonance is first and foremost my favorite knob to tweak on a synthesizer, and second, one of the musical aspects of a lot of tracks that I will use to actually eliminate them from a mix. All that texture doesn't work well for me unless its across almost the entire mix. It's a great space to explore but it takes a lot of time to do in a way that satisfies me. This mix is it. For only the fourth? time ever, I put out one podcast a month for an entire calendar year of this podcast. !WOW! 2023 was a great year for myself and music. Better than I has planned. This mix is a Part Two to my episode 117 from December 2021. Yes, I've been working on it since I started working on that set, so going on three years. This months mix is a lot of low-fi 12" rips that I grouped together because they were absolute bangers, but were very hard to put in to other sets with better recording quality. Almost none of these could have fit with 117, even though both are vintage mixes with tracks from the mid 90s to MAYBE 2002. All of the time it took to get together the right tracks for this mix was worth it, and the months it took to organize them in to a sequence I felt really worked with them paid off. I have put so much time in to this set that by the time I mixed it, the whole thing had already been in my head for over a year. Part of my creative process is loading all the songs in to my head, and letting them sort themselves out over time. I'm thankful I can take so much time to put a set together for myself, and I hope you really can enjoy it too. I tried to keep with the vibes for the cover art an made something straight out of the 90's. This month I am bringing back the weird spooky October vibe from past podcasts. I didn't get a chance to play at Burning Man this year because of the rained out weekend - but I really had a lot of intentions to do it. Tons of tracks were ready to go, a vibe, and a vision!I realized how long it's been since I dropped a slamming Disco set down - way too long. The unexpected turn with last month's podcast to techno allowed me to fire up a mix I had been throwing together for a really long time. In the late 1990s and Early 2000s there are a few genres that had a certain edginess to them. Bordering Techno, Trance, and straight up Desert Music - I can't really say what it is, but it's definitely a vibe. This month's mix is a collection of mostly very old music - with just enough new material thrown in to make it cohesive enough for today's stage. I find it really challenging to put together a quality mix of classic tracks because we get so in to playing favorites. We all have those epic jams we fall in love with. Definitely nothing new here - just a lot of my ideas for mixing from the last few years that were taken out of my Trance sets and saved for later - and a few new ideas. I would have had a similarly themed mix up a year ago for this set, but since my friend passed, I did the re-mix of his favorite set. I am behind a couple years on trance now, but that means next time the set will be absolute madness.     This set is a journey. It's not just "trance" music, it is trance. It takes you places. It hypnotizes. Trance became a sound instead of a mind-set for music a long, long time ago. In this set I dive in to what trance really is to me. The style of this set is close to how I would play on vinyl compared to how I play on Ableton. I do genre bending - BPM pushing - hypnotic transitions... letting each track tell me where the mix wants to go next. I've collected tracks for 3 years to put this House mix together just the way I wanted to be heard. Every now and then, I would her some percussion that just drove me wild. Banging toms on a big system, 1970s disco energy in such a raw form, I could swear theres actually analogue gear in some of these tracks. Computer music has really come a long way, some of these tracks have so much depth!I pulled some tracks from events before COVID, 2019 was a great year for house music. So much came for us in 2020 too that had been in the works but I was never able to play it out how I wanted to. I suppose this is a throwback set then, since I got the idea for it in 2019 and it would have been my 2020-2021 live set vibe. A lot has come out since then though, and I am 100% pleased with the time spent waiting, looking for more to add to this one. This mix spans 3 years of tracks I've been waiting to drop, with one throwback favorite I've been dying to throw down again, and a preveiw of a new track I've been working on. Honestly the first full track I have done in maybe 5 years. Crazy how time flies. I had this done in time for New Years Eve, but my quest for mix perfection kept me tuning i for a few more days, and then some creative block for the title. I feel like I absolutely nailed it at the end though. Really happy I put in the extra studio time and put together a new track in time for the mix. I spent a few months travelling and saw most of my friends, and some people from way, way back. Heard a lot of really great music, new and old, and the entire time used my experiences to inspire my track selection. FINALLY I have done it. A proper music travel podcast. It has been almost a year since I got myself out there and absorbed the music around me to put in to a mix. And this one is HOTT! Went to lots of festivals and parties, drive thousands of miles. Enjoyed many many sunsets (and sunrises...) Most inspiring to me this time was a lot of sets I heard at Burning Man. Some incredible experiences listening to a lot of these tunes on massive sound systems. I can not describe to you what some solid House Music will do on a concert level system, tuned to perfection. It is a full body immersion. A few of these tracks made me really lose my top. I threw down everything and danced. The second section from my NYE 2019 - 2020 live set out in Joshua Tree. What a great night with all my friends! I felt like I needed some house to get me in the mood for Burning Man this year, so I finally got around to processing the rest of this mix (I put up the first hour back in 2020 for a podcast). The tracks are still all so solid a few years later. 100% success getting me in the mood for some awesome house music out in the desert. ENJOY!!

My best friend passed away unexpectedly this winter, and one of the things on my list to do for him some day was to re-mix his favorite set of mine. I would get embarrassed every time he told me it was his favorite because it was my first digital mix, and was pretty rough for my standards. I put things off for too long and he never got that re-mixed set.We threw a big memorial party for him in our favorite space to dance, so I decided to finally do that set for him the right way. I mastered one of my old edits that I had wanted to be in the set all along but didnt used to have the tools to do it.I played the set live for him and his closest friends, we danced, cried, and celebrated his incredibly colorful life. It's so hard for me to say all of this but that's what all of our lives are. Theres a time to live and a time to die, you just go with it. I wasn't able to accept he was gone until the last song of this set was played.
