Lisa continues the conversation around diversity, equity, and inclusion by asking Caroline how businesses can go beyond a check-box initiative, where to start if you have no programs or policies in place, and how to not only go through the motions but live it out in the workplace. Caroline shares that the biggest barrier to DEI in the workplace is fear. Fear of getting started and fear of offending people. With the right intention and continued conversations, DEI can be a core practice without the fear. The episode wraps up with two audience write-ins: a co-worker who thinks their colleague has dementia and a close-to promotion that goes missing after switching to a new department at a big tax firm.
