Episode 2: Peggy Oki-Master of The Universe

Stories From the Trailer with your host Chipper Bro

Aug 4 2023 • 37 mins

Peggy Oki is a living legend. A true skateboarding pioneer and ambassador for women athletes. Her DNA, her attitude, and her grace made Peggy one of the greatest women skateboarders and environmental activists of our time.

Peggy is an international super star and hero with her environmental direct-action as a radical activist aiming to bring peace and harmony to all cetaceans of the planet (whales and dolphins).

She is an accomplished professional skateboarder, surfer, artist, TED X speaker, and international keynote influencer.

Peggy grew up in West Los Angeles. She started surfing and skating at a young age.  We ask Peggy how her parents felt about Dogtown and the lifestyles of rebel skaters and surfers.

We explore Peggy’s times at Santa Monica College where she met Jay Adams, an American skateboarder who was a member of the Dogtown & Z Boys team. Peggy found herself the only female member of the Z Boys Zephyr team.

She took first place skateboarding in the 1975 Del Mar Nationals and won first place in the slalom event in the Santa Barbara Skateboard contest later the same year.

It was not long after, Peggy quit competitive skateboarding for she did not like the conventional structure of contests. Peggy by nature is a soul skater and soul surfer.

Currently, Peggy is a public keynote speaker inspiring audiences with stories of her journey going from a pro Hall of Fame skateboarder, world renowned artist, to a motivating environmental direct-action activist and keynote speaker. Peggy’s relates her talks to the natural world and the impact of human activity on whales, dolphins, and other sea life creatures.

In 2004 Peggy founded the Origami Whales Project to help people understand the incompetencies of commercial whaling in Japan, Norway, and Iceland.

Peggy has a deep commitment to our planet that has inspired me and 1,000s of other people around the world to make a difference. She encourages, not only with her art, but she also inspires with her actions. Peggy is an incredibly authentic storyteller.
