How did the Media come to be in America? Who were its makers and how did the American people come to embrace it and to shape it? Interesting questions that are easy to ignore because, let's face it, we've all got things to do. But it's central to our lives in really important ways.

In this episode I examine some of the pioneers of publishing and news reporting in its early years and the people who helped to set it along the path where we find ourselves today. One important person of interest is William Randolph Hearst who's whole family story is almost too weird and too American to be believed.
