And we got so much happening in major league baseball, all the trades - like Ohtani traded to the Dodgers for a $700M contract! Tyler Glasnow is now a Dodger! (Glasnow to return to Los Angeles soon and purchased a house in Tampa FL with the help of realtor Wendy Murphy.) Shohei Ohtani’s influence across MLB, USA and Japan is bringing in more fans! Exciting times for the Dodgers!

  • 10 year contract for $700M and his agent is Nez Balelo of CAA
  • Breakdown of contract: Gets $2M per year x 10 years. 2034-2043 paid $68M per year. Defers payment of $680M that comes with tax benefits lets the Dodgers have the ability to trade more people.
  • Designated hitter in 2024 and will likely pitch in 2025 o This deal suprasses Lionel Messi $674M deal w/Barcelona ’17-‘21
  • Patrick Mahomes 10 year contract for $450M
  • Mike Trout 12 year contract $426.5M extension signed 2019
  • BASEBALL STAR. Baseball is known more so regionally where more fans follow their own team and not so much national. Ohtani has transcended that. Now that Ohtani is gone, will he do samurai hat?

NEW DODGER PLAYERS just traded to the team- Pitcher, Tyler Glasnow (5 years for $136.5M w/a $10M signing bonus) and Manuel Margot outfielder from Tampa Bay Rays. Glasnow grew up in Santa Clarita, Calif., about 30 miles north of Dodger Stadium. The 30-year-old will slot into the front end of his hometown club’s rotation.

ECONOMICS AND HOUSING:

  • Fed Funds rate left unchanged in December, 5.25 5.5
  • Three rate cuts are on the horizon for 2024. Fed’s dot plot- a chart where it’s projected where the fed funds rate will be in the future (4.625%)
  • UR from 3.9 to 3.7%
  • CPI came in at 3.1% where last year was 4%
  • Did 11 rate hikes since March ‘22
  • Consumer expenditures price index up 3% on a year- over-year basis, compared with 3.4% in September. Price growth as measured by the PCE index is the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge.
  • Luxury market in Orange County (over $2M) (168 DOM) has slowed more so than the general market (60 DOM), if anything this price range has got hot again. These higher price points usually don’t fall much when the market slows down since they usually don’t always feel the pressure of selling. Active listings down about 6% (129 homes) in OC, last year inventory was 46% higher than last year.
  • Luxury market in Los Angeles County (over $2M) (269) slowed and general market at 74 days. Active listings down about 2% and last year there was 15% more inventory.
