Nick Edgar | From people pleasing to reclaiming self-worth, a tale of vulnerability and self-compassion
In this everyday burnout conversation, I share an incredible chat with Holistic Transformational Coach Nick Edgar. This beautifully raw and candid conversation is a true testament to the power of vulnerability and the strength that comes from embracing all aspects and the dualities of our life journeys. Nick Edgar, a coach and former professional footballer, joins me for a heart-to-heart on how he transformed his relentless pursuit of external validation into a journey of self-compassion and emotional agility. From the challenges of childhood expectations to the complexities of finding an identity in a life after football, Nick opens up about the courage it takes to confront the stories we've written about ourselves and why those narratives need to be rewritten with kindness. We discuss the significance of vulnerable struggles, the societal pressure to mask our imperfections, and the liberation found in acknowledging failure as a crucial part of growth. Nick's insights on setting personal boundaries and the healing power of supportive communities that listen without judgment remind us that gentleness in the face of adversity isn't just an act of self-care—it's an act of defiance against a culture that equates busyness with worth.More about NickNick Edgar is a trauma-informed Holistic Transformational Coach, NLP, Hypnotherapy, and breathwork practitioner and co-founder of the wellbeing organisation The 3E Space.Nick identifies as a highly sensitive guy and a recovering people-pleaser. He coaches people globally, supporting his clients in breaking free of people-pleasing in meaningful ways. His work with The 3E Space helps organisations and businesses develop effective cultures, emotional agility, and burnout prevention. Nick is a freelance facilitator for Equation, a Nottingham-based Domestic Abuse Charity, and with InCourage, facilitating men’s retreat weekends. He hosts The Sunday Space, a monthly men’s group, and you can enjoy listening to him most Wednesday evenings as a panellist on BBC Midlands Local Radio’s Circle of Men talk show, hosted by Arun Verma. You’ll also find Nick supporting Josh Connolly as an affiliate coach and facilitator in delivering Inner You - an online group healing programme and live breathwork. Find Nick at: Nick’s InstagramNick's websitewww.the3espace.comMentioned in this episode:The Compassionate Mind: A New Approach to Life's Challenges by Paul Gilbert Josh Connolly's website & Inner You Program Josh Connolly's Instagram @josh_ffw The Circle of Men is every Wednesday at 8 pm on BBC Midlands Local Radio hosted by Arun Verma  Nick is a facilitator for @_incourage_ men’s retreatsNick is a facilitator in schools for @equationorg charityFancy a little more burnout chat? Karolyne LaFortune | Embracing your authentic erotic for self-connection and inner strength
In this everyday burnout conversation, I sit down to chat with Karolyne LaFortune, owner of EmbodiPole Sensual Arts. When Karolyne first discovered pole dancing, little did she know it would become her sanctuary and means of profound self-discovery. Her initial pole focus was a fitness-focused mindset propelled by the masculine energy of ambition, action, drive, and strength. However, when her life changed with the pandemic, pregnancy, and becoming a mum to two young children, this orchestrated a fascinating shift towards her focusing now on the feminine forces—a space of receptivity, emotion, and presence. Karolyne shares how this transition allowed her to tap into her body's intuition, slow down, and embark on a holistic growth and healing path.As the conversation progresses, we explore the dynamic interplay of masculine and feminine energies within pole dancing and how it mirrors that balance necessary in life, contributing to our overall well-being and interpersonal relationships. Karolyne helps us contemplate the equilibrium of self-care and self-love, reminding us of how vital it is to listen to our bodies and trust our intuition, especially when the world seems to push us to our limits.Learn more about Karolyne:EmbodiPole Sensual Arts website EmbodiPole Instagram Karolyne’s Instagram Please note, this podcast is not intended as medical advice. Andrea Anderson | Navigating autistic burnout, unveiling neurodiversity and the path to self-acceptance
In this everyday burnout conversation, I sit down to chat with the fabulous Andrea Anderson. Andrea is a late discovered Autistic woman on a mission to help create environments for neurodivergence to belong. Andrea has experienced burnout during her 10+ years of working in fast-paced and growing fashioninesses such as Topshop, Topman, and digital bus and ASOS. She is now a remarkable writer, neurodivergent educator and certified professional coach. Amidst stories of managing multiple burnouts and advocating for self-care, Andrea and I discuss the life-changing and enlightening path of her seeking a neurodiversity diagnosis at the age of 45 - a discovery that has fired her up to change the narrative to “we’re different, not difficult”. Andrea helps illuminate this journey, which is rife with biases and the all-too-narrow medical model that often fails to recognise the strengths and capabilities inherent in neurodivergent individuals. We go on to peel back the layers of societal pressures and a compulsion to conform with the hidden cost on people’s wellbeing, especially on neurodivergent individuals. Her insights on the corporate world's often narrow view of employee well-being lead us to discuss the role of self-compassion and the importance of the tribe we find—or create—along the way. Join us for this intimate conversation on self-discovery and a celebration of the joys of finding true belonging within ourselves.More about Andrea and her workAndrea educates and advocates for neurodivergence through her writing and forthcoming book, in addition to her work with businesses and institutions that are ready to accept neurodivergence and remove barriers for neurodivergent humans to thrive. Andrea's debut book, This is Who I am… the autistic woman's creative guide to belonging, is set for release this Summer, wherre she dives deep into the raw reactions and difficult emotions that surface when uncovering an unknown difference in yourself.Andrea’s WebsiteAndrea’s InstagramAndrea’s Facebook The Late Discovered Club Podcast with Catherine Aster Please note, this podcast is not intended as medical advice. Flic | The anchoring question we need to ask ourselves right now
In this solo session episode, I talk about how important it is to meet ourselves where we're at during these unsettling times and do whatever we can to better look after our health and wellbeing in this present moment. When we sit and take stock, the world has experienced and changed a lot these past few years, so it's only natural for many of us to feel discombobulated and like we're standing on unstable ground. So, how do we tune into our own selves? In this episode, I share the anchoring question that can help you centre back to yourself and begin to better meet your needs. I also share these beautiful words that struck a chord with me this week.Body is purified by water.  Ego is purified by tears. Intellect is purified by knowledge. And the soul is purified by love. - Iman Ali  Please note, this podcast is not intended as medical advice. The Solo Sessions: How To Calm Your Crimbo Nervous System
It's that time of year when, if we're not careful, we can take our exhaustion and burnout, throw some fairy lights over the top and hose it down with a bottle of Bailey's!It's imperative we manage our stress and take better care of ourselves, so we don't start the new year with a bucket of burnout tucked under our arms. As a mental health writer, I've noticed how so many of us know very little about the mechanics of stress and how our nervous system operates. In this episode, I talk about why our primitive brain and outdated hard wiring go on overdrive this time of year. I explain how our parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system works, and what we can do to help calm it and get back to a place of peace, helping us stave off exhaustion, overwhelm and burnout. My wish for you after listening to this quickity-quick solo chat is that you begin to take regular moments throughout the day to calm and reset your nervous system. Set reminders for throughout your day to do: Breathwork, meditationYoga, tapping, Walk in nature, enjoy some sunshine or fresh air, Nap or restCuddle a pet, cuddle someone you love and trust, enjoy a weighted blanket around your shoulders Dance or physically move and shake off the stress-energyTurn down the volume on any stimulation, reduce screens, sounds, lights People I mention in this episode are:Sarah Tobin Tapping scripts @sarah_tobinCaroline Meade Meditations @itstimeforme.ieKelly Day Meditations @thisiskellydayYoga with Adriene (and Benji the dog) @adrienelouiseThese episodes are not intended to be medical advice. But if you are struggling, remember YOU matter. I'm a big cheerleader for anyone who seeks the help they need and deserve from a mental health professional. Please like and subscribe to this podcast if you've enjoyed listening.
