The interview with Alex Palacios: Have you heard of Alex Palacios?
If not, you will. Palacios is already known nationally, Atlanta being no exception. Palacios has received national recognition for their activism in various social issues such as racism, gender equality, and HIV. Palacios is currently running for city council in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Upon which, they will become the first openly gender non-binary person to hold such a position in Minneapolis and one of a small number nationally.
They mentioned having visited Atlanta twice and complimented the city, especially Piedmont Park. According to them, Piedmont Park has a lot of history and beauty to it.
On July 14, 2020, I had the pleasure of interviewing Alex Palacios. They discussed why they are running for the city council, what being gender non-binary as a future city council person means to them, and how the murder of George Floyd has affected them. During which, they mentioned their past accomplishments that can be applied to the position such as Poz Magazine’s Top 100 in 2019 and has served as a Membership Director for Stonewall DFL. They elaborated on how they want to set a positive example as a gender non-binary figure in politics. They discussed how the murder of George Floyd has started more positive conversations about racism and that they are not enough to solve racism and police brutality.
Palacios hopes that this interview can influence others to run for politics, even if others tell them it is impossible. To learn more about them, please visit http://alexforward6.com/ To listen to the full interview, please visit LifeStyles in Atlanta on Spotify, iTunes, and Anchor.
