Mohammad Zahoor came to Ukraine as a 19-year-old teenager. In the 1990s, amid the chaos that followed the 1991 breakup of the Soviet Union, Zahoor managed to establish a thriving steel mill that he sold in 2008. Then, he lost most of this fortune because of bad business deals, unworthy partners, corruption, and the war.
