Web 3.0, the third generation of the Internet, is a decentralized version of the widely-used, centrally-controlled, two-dimensional Internet.

With the support of the Metaverse, Web3 heralds an inclusive, collective, open cyberspace. Indeed, the internet has morphed into a three-dimensional experience. Meaning, as reality and digital reality fuse you too can fuse into the Metaverse.

Meta means beyond. And Web3 allows us to travel beyond, where virtual reality and augmented reality join with other realities creating mixed reality experiences known as MXR. It is also possible to include the haptic capability in the mix, bringing our sense of touch and feeling to the Verse.

Turning to numbers. The Web3-based Metaverse liberates users from the ‘leased’ model of Web2, and opens the doors to the ‘ownership economy’. Recent reports predict the Metaverse marketplace will top US$1.5T in less than ten years.

Much of this value is likely to be attributed to Non-Fungible Tokens, or NFTs. NFTs are a new type of digital good or product born from open protocols which in turn are swiftly nourishing a fast-evolving, richly-integrated marketplace.

In every ‘something new’ there are the early adopters, the first movers, the Edgewalkers.
