When the Ideal isn’t Available: Making the Best of Good Enough

Recover Yourself: Out from Under the Influence

Mar 28 2021 • 40 mins

If we insist on waiting for the best time to do what we want to do or to do what is good for us, we’ll never get around to it. There is no perfect time to do anything. So, any time is the perfect time to do everything. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to hear people use the phrase “Bucket List,” if you want to do something start doing it now. And that is no different when it comes to our vices.

The last 2 years I spent smoking I did not enjoy it, but it was an identity I carried, and it was just too scary to change that identity. And, although I am ashamed of this, it took my girlfriend at the time to announce where was quitting to get me off my ass and do the same. I do not want to sit around and wait to do something that I want to do and that will put me in a healthier orbit.

This episode is with Allison Walsh, the Vice President of Business Development and Branding for Advanced Recovery Systems based in Central Florida. Allison is an author, podcast host, and former Miss Florida. Her story includes a battle with Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa, and with 19 years in recovery, she has a lot of perspectives to offer, from her experience both personally and professionally.

We are unwrapping a lot in this episode and addressing the idea that, on paper, there is never a good time to start a transformational journey. Luckily, we can always start right now. No matter what is in our way, or on our mind, we can do it and it only takes making up our mind to do it, once we do that, the first step takes itself.

Questions
1 What were some things that kept (keep) you from committing to taking that first step?
2 What are you doing, out in your life, to keep your recovery strong?
3 How do you check in with yourself when things are not going as planned?

As my work suggests I am always looking to recover myself completely and my aim is to help others recover themselves. I see a client for a total of 4 sessions which is designed to launch self-directed lives and separate us from the constant draw of codependency. This starts with my doing a portrait of my client. The portrait is an intimate experience, these open a vocabulary to trauma and are healing. This process is not for everyone and if you are not ready, I will not work with you. It is important that you are ready to step into yourself and stop playing a victim cursed by things around you. If you are interested in working together reach out at https://www.martinjon.com/
