THE IMPACT INTERVIEW

Jan 4 2023 • 46 mins

Welcome to Episode 6.

This week’s guest is Toby Chan, co-founder and Partner at early stage sustainability investor Audacy Ventures who are based out of Hong Kong. I first met Toby in Hong Kong about 10 years ago when he was investing in the Asian Oil & Gas sector and I was recruiting in private equity. I caught up with him just before Christmas just as he was beginning his family vacation in the mountains.

Having helped to grow Kerogen Capital from the start, to become one of Asia’s first and largest energy-focused funds, he co-founded Audacy in 2017 and since then they’ve been able to build a diverse portfolio of early stage investments with Decarbonisation as the main theme.

He talks about how the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011 was a key factor in stimulating the renewable energy sector in Asia, eventually leading to Audacy’s first investment in Japanese solar in 2018. He describes the evolution of sustainable technologies and the impact of next generation investors in Asia in driving growth in the space.

For me, it was a really interesting conversation combining Sustainability themes with some Asia perspective and strong flavour of Entrepreneurship as Toby tells his story and future plans.

Thanks for listening!
