Positive Breastfeeding Experience with Dr. Kelsey

Breastfeeding Relief with Bethany

Feb 8 2024 • 22 mins

In this episode, Dr. Kelsey detailed her positive breastfeeding experiences with both children, though noted she wished they practiced bottle-feeding more with their son to ease returning to work. They emphasized assessing each child's individual needs and functions at different developmental stages.  Bethany stressed the importance of evaluating how tongue ties impact functions like speech, eating, and pain rather than automatically releasing all ties.  Dr. Kelsey's daughter's tie did not require treatment as they faced no issues.  Dr. Kelsey lamented not knowing slow flow bottles were best to mimic breastfeeding, to avoid frustration or choking. Bethany warned against modifying bottle nipples, advising they match breast pace to ensure suck-swallow-breathe coordination.  Dr. Kelsey recommended Hatch machines' versatility from infancy to toddlerhood. Bethany inquired about safe volume levels, and Dr. Kelsey advised below 50 decibels or a conversational level, placed farther than eight feet from babies.
