Turkmenistan has been compared frequently to North Korea in terms of its lack of press freedom and cult of personality around their leader, President Gurbenguly Berdimukhamedov. He built his reputation on making the gas-rich country prosperous, happy, and free of COVID. According to the government there has not been a single case in the country until today. So why did they ask their people to weak masks and socially distance anyway?
