The High Museum of Art: "Gatecrashers"

Wild At Art

Oct 11 2021 • 37 mins

In this episode we talk with Katie Jentleson, PHD, who is the Merrie and Dan Boone Curator of Folk and Self-Taught Art at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. She is author of the book, Gatecrashers, an exploration of self-taught artists who emerged in the post World War I period. At the time of our recording she was curating two new exhibits for the High Museum, Gatecrashers: The Rise of the Self-Taught Artist in America, and Really Free: The Radical Art of Nellie Mae Rowe. We talk with Katie about what it means to be a "gatecrasher," how she became a  curator for the High Museum, what drives her passion for folk and self-taught artists, and we talk about the exhibits and the amazing, raw, authentic and powerful works she is showcasing. And we encourage everyone to visit the High Museum very soon, as these unique and inspiring exhibits are not to be missed.

Gatecrashers at the High Museum until December 11th, 2021
Really Free at the High Museum until January 9th, 2022
