UNESCO - The WAVE

In this new episode of "The Wave", we are happy to we welcome four industry experts who will explain the importance of cinema to telling the African story and changing the narrative on the Continent and its people. They also will address the question of the future of African cinema in a post Covid world, as well as the issues of access to finance and the role of festivals and distribution networks in creating new opportunities for African filmmakers.

Biola Alabi, founding partner of Biola Alabi Media, producer of  the food documentary Bukas and Joints, as well as movies such as Lara and the Beat, Banana Island Ghost available on Netflix

Apolline Traore, a burkinabe filmmaker who directed several short films. However, the movies for which she is best known are Moi Zaphira, released in 2013, and Frontières, which was released in 2018. Frontières was awarded a prize at the 2017 edition of FESPACO, the Ouagadougou film festival.

Jackie Motsepe, Chief Operating Officer of the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission. The mandate of the Commission is to make the KwaZulu-Natal province a film production hub, and to position it as a globally competitive, diverse and sustainable industry and choice film destination.
