A Tippecanoe County resident for all but two years of his life, Sheriff Goldsmith graduated from Lafayette Jeff High School, attended Purdue and Ball State Universities, and then began his career in law enforcement as a Tippecanoe County Jail Deputy in 1997. He eventually worked his way up to supervisor before leaving, and becoming a Clinton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy in 1999. During his career with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, he spent 12 years as a Detective, was promoted to Sergeant of Detectives in 2016, promoted to Lieutenant of Detectives in 2018, and then elected Sheriff of Tippecanoe County in November of 2018. During his career, he has been a member of the Hostage Negotiation Team, a boat operator for the Dive Team, and participated in an operation where he took on the persona of a child to catch those that were trying to meet up with children and victimize them. He has attended several classes for interviewing children that are victims of crimes, homicide investigation, criminal interview and interrogation schools, computer forensic classes, and much more. Bob has a passion for law enforcement, community service, and doing everything he can to help his teammates become the best they can be - by listening to them, communicating with them, and providing for them.
