Will Chesney joined the elite SEAL Team ranks in 2003, making the dream of a young boy from Lumberton, TX, a reality. “I was an ordinary kid from a small town in Texas. I wasn’t very big (five feet nine, 170 pounds) or a great athlete, but I wouldn’t quit. I knew what I wanted, and what I wanted was to be a Navy SEAL!” WILL CHESNEY served in the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group as an operator and dog handler. He participated in Operation Neptune Spear with SEAL Team 6, which resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden. Chesney received a Silver Star and a Purple Heart and now helps veterans who have suffered traumatic brain injury. In April 2011, Will Chesney got an unexpected call: He was to grab his dog, Cairo, and head to Virginia, immediately.What came next were weeks of exhaustive training as the Navy SEAL and his military working dog, Cairo, prepared for one of the most significant special operations missions in history: Operation Neptune Spear. By May 2, 2011, Cairo and Chesney were on the ground in Abbottabad, Pakistan, taking part in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. Post-mission, life went on for Chesney, and he deployed again, but this time without Cairo. A grenade blast in 2013 left him with a brain injury, PTSD and the inability to participate in missions. Suffering from crippling migraines, chronic pain, and depression, Chesney pursued modern medicines to ease the pain but only found moderate relief. "I was in a very bad place," Chesney admitted. "A lot of guys try a lot of modalities, and they get tired of reaching out and going into a very bad place. One of my best friends ended up dragging me to a brain health clinic. It took him reaching out to me."
