Thoughts on AI and Machine Learning, Intellectual Property and Identities

The Self-Awareness and Self-Compassion Podcast

Technology is always changing and disrupting industries. But the shift into using artificial intelligence on the scale that is being offered today seems deeper than any other shift that came before. Perhaps that is because this is the moment I am living through.

I’m concerned that the source material will continue to feed on itself and the less we can screen or trust the sources of our information and creations. There’s a massive lack of quality control or regulation here. And morally I feel like it is devoid, and at the same time I recognize that this is already happening and being used and there’s not much I personally can do to change that.

The positive that comes from acknowledging my personal gut reaction to AI is that I want to create more in-person, tactile and interactive experiences in my physical day-to-day life. This slows me down and reminds me to bring my friends and family closer into my day-to-day life.

It makes me motivated to put safeguards in place not only for the way I interact with technology now but also to advocate for regulations that could allow me to trust the sources of news and gossip that continually seem to devolve and divide us.

Be aware of how much you are being sold something with every article and piece of entertainment you consume. It’s through awareness that we can make the choice to turn away from consumption and towards contentment and presence in our own lives. I want to be present and the star of my own life, not an incidental character in someone else’s larger-than-life movie.
