Shy Day-Wilson who currently plays for Duke, recently went one on one with Toronto rap icon Drake. Torontonian point guard stands just 5-foot-6 and is a standout player.  She's been considered a phenom since the age of 13.

She wants to go pro and become just the 18th Canadian to play in the WNBA; and she wants to put Toronto and Canadian women’s basketball on the map.

Fans paid attention when Shaeyann Day-Wilson posted a clip on social media playing basketball with Drake. In November of 2021, the Toronto Raptors' global ambassador, posted a message to the WNBA on his Instagram story saying, "I need a Toronto team."

In 2019, the Raptors brought home the NBA championship for the first time in franchise history. Sports expert Kevin Yeung, who is a content creator with TSN’s BarDown, says the strong appetite for basketball north of the border makes Toronto a strong contender to be an expansion city for the WNBA.

Raptors coach Nick Nurse is also on board with the idea. Nurse told reporters during a post-game news conference that a WNBA team would be "wildly successful" in Toronto.

"I think the women should be represented in Toronto with a WNBA team," he said.

In May of 2019, WorldWide Entertainment TV covered the High School United States vs Canada tournament for women in Toronto. Brooklyn Tea Talk took to the road as she interviewed the future NCAA basketball player who grew up at Jane and Falstaff and discovered basketball at Falstaff Community Centre.

Brooklyn also interviews her coach during the time period, Patrick Shaw, who had nothing, but great things to say about her work ethic towards becoming a top prospect. Shaw, originally arrived in Toronto to visit family and stayed to run Falstaff Community Centre after the woman who previously ran it had to retire due to health problems.

Brooklyn who also worked in her early days with Day-Wilson reminded her of her failed attempt at being in a dance group, but she had the talent for basketball which Shaw believed in. Eventually, basketball started to grow on Shayeann.  Check out the exclusive interview in the video above.
