This week, Sareta and Chioma had the pleasure of speaking with Nikita Akilapa, a PR and Marketing executive-turned-birth worker who provides emotional, educational, and physical support for pregnant individuals through the pre-and post-natal experience. As a Yoga teacher, Doula, Hypnobirthing instructor, and breastfeeding advocate, Nikita is passionate about sharing positive birth stories and beautiful images that accompany them (when Instagram permits). She is also a mother to two wonderful humans.

During their conversation, the ladies discussed Nikita's work as a doula - from the range of support she can provide to her limits of care - and the importance of ante-natal education. They also reflected on their own birth experiences and what they would have done differently if given a chance. Nikita then gave her take on inequalities for Black and brown women within maternity care in the NHS (MBRRACE-UK Saving Lives, Improving Mothers' Care Report, 2021) while recommending Layla F Saad's book Me And White Supremacy.
