Monsters & Mocktails: Halloween Episode, the Rougarou
Happy Spooky Season!! This week Emily tells us about the rougarou, the legendary Cajun werewolf. The rougarou was often used as a cautionary tale for children and adults alike. If you have ever experienced a rougarou let us know! Our zero proof drink this week is very fitting - it is the Rougarou coffee blend by French Truck Coffee. They typically offer this every year around this time and it is so good! This blend is made up of Honduran and Colombian coffee and has notes of praline, caramel, and chocolate brownie sweetness. Emily also wanted to shout out Clearly Canadian which she loves! The Murder of Emma Austraw; Episode 39
Happy Malice Monday! We're back with a brand new true crime case - the Murder of Emma Austraw. April, 1919 - Emma was just 19 years old when she was brutally attacked and murdered near the school where she taught in Derry Township, PA. Three men are arrested and accused of the crime, but justice is not necessarily obtained in this case. Our mocktail this week is called JONI! A HUGE thank you to our new friend Claire, also the founder of JONI, for sharing with us samples including Verjus Drink Blanc and Rouge. Both drinks are lightly sweet, a little tart, and made from pre-harvest grapes that are picked to give the other grapes a little more elbow room. Enjoy either as is or get creative by incorporating them into your favorite mocktail recipe of choice, or create your own recipe. Stay tuned in the coming months as Claire joins us as a guest on the show. Special shoutout to Carmen and Joanna from Live, Laugh, Murder podcast! Each week Carmen tells Joanna a story that could be the plot of a horror movie or the events of a true crime case. Monsters & Mocktails: The Legend of the Melon Heads
In this week's episode, we have another Monsters & Mocktails special - The Legend of the Melon Heads. Emily shares with us this legend which primarily can be found in three US states: Michigan, Ohio, and Connecticut. Have you heard of this legend? Let us know, and we hope you enjoy! Our mocktail this week is the Honeydew Lime Mocktail with Mint brought to you by flavourandsavor.com. We think that perhaps Indonesian Cinnamon by Sobreo might pair nicely with the flavor palette of this mocktail - we will be sure to try it out and report back! Also, definitely check out Sobreo (we LOVE them as you can tell!) and their unique mixers that can be incorporated into any zero proof cocktail for an extra boost of flavor. Charles Ponzi and the Birth of the Ponzi Scheme; Episode 36
Did someone say Ponzi scheme? On this week’s episode of Malice & Mocktails Katie tells us about Charles Ponzi, the namesake of the term Ponzi Scheme. Hold on to your butts because it’s kind of a wild ride for such a simple scheme. It is also so incredibly tragic how this man swindled thousands upon thousands of men and women, some even out of their life savings - and it still happens today. For our #mocktail this week, Katie highlights Mocktails which offers uniquely crafted zero proof beverages including espresso martini, mockapolitan, mockscow mule, sansgria, and mockarita - we also LOVE the drink names.
