Episode 110 - The Fantastic Tony Christie

Music Stories with Tony Lloyd

Feb 19 2024 • 22 mins

We laughed and laughed !
Talking to the one and only Tony Christie was a real treat!
He tells me about how he got into music as a child, and how he had the hit with 'Is This The Way To Amarillo', first back in 1971 and then with Peter Kay of course much later.  I find out how that actually came about! We have a laugh at what Google Maps say about the way to Amarillo!
Tony has recorded new music in Nashville and his brilliant new Album ' We Still Shine' is out now. His single from the album is superb and I play a bit of 'Just Like Yesterday' - written by 10cc's Graham Gouldman.
Young Tony ( He's only 80 ! ) has recently been diagnosed with Dementia but has it under control. He is an ambassador for the charity ' Music For Dementia' and he tells me all about it.  Their website is https://www.musicfordementia.org.uk/
Tony has a massive gig list for this year and all dates and tickets can be found on his website https://www.tonychristie.com/
Tony has so many inspiring stories about his life and it was a pleasure to be asked to interview him.
