Lord Burnett of Maldon has recently stepped down as Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and head of the judiciary, after six years in post (2017-2023). Lord Mackay of Clashfern is best known as having been Lord Chancellor for 10 years from 1987-97, in the governments of both Margaret Thatcher and John Major. Baroness Butler-Sloss was appointed President of the High Court Family Division in 1999, the first woman to reach that level of the judiciary. She came into the public eye when, as a High Court judge, she was chosen to chair the Cleveland Child Abuse Inquiry.  Her focus on the voice of child led to the central principle of the Children Act introduced in 1989. Lord Sumption is a former chief justice of the UK Supreme Court.
