Bashful Boxer

Have you ever seen the beginning of a boxing match where the opponents are just kind of dancing around just out of reach of each other? As an audience, it’s easy to want to push them to, “Go, go, go!” But it looks a lot different from inside the ring. When you’re inside the ring, you’re acutely aware of the danger, of the fact that one misstep could cause severe pain.
But the winners are the ones who have prepared before they ever stepped foot in the ring. They’ve pushed their selves to the limit repeatedly and they know what they’re capable of. They launch out and attack, sure they must defend and dodge and weave, but ultimately, they execute all that preparation.

To reference today’s title; imagine a boxer that is too worried about what people in the audience think to execute. They wonder if they should’ve worn a different color, or does the ref think his breath stinks? This is extreme and even silly, but we find ourselves in the quote, ring, every Sunday and sometimes we feel inadequate.

Some of the things we try to cover:

  • False Bravado
  • Supreme Confidence
  • Inadequate and Unqualified
