Spiritual Jazz was just one of the many post-1959 innovations in Jazz, massively influenced by Eastern spiritual and African consciousness movements, Minimalism in music, and in some cases, experiments with psychedelic compounds. Alice and John Coltrane pioneered the Spiritual Jazz movement together and with the constellation of artists they both worked with in their own ensembles, as examined here.
