The church Timothy was pastoring was battling with groups of people who were lacking humility toward each other and not serving each other, as they ought to do. Paul picks out three groups of people in particular: widows, elders and slaves. We will see as we go through this text that because we are in Christ, we are to serve each other sacrificially, as Christ serves the church.
