Kyle Buchanan

Hey friend -  my name is Kyle Buchanan and although I talk nutrition and health for a living nowadays   - whether through talks, videos, or as a resident contributor on Canada's "The Morning Show", it was NOT that long ago that I was an anxious, drunken, closeted, self-doubty wreck. Being a grown up is tough, and messy - where we’re confident one day and anxiety-ridden the next. I don't like faking it. I DO however, like getting it all out in the open, laughing about it, and then exploring a few tools that can help us feel better if (and only if) we are in the mood. So whether it’s solo episodes or honest conversations with spectacular guests -this show is the blend of revelations, self-help, knowledge and gay magic that NO one asked for, but everyone needs. And I'm so glad you're here.

Does Intermittent Fasting Increase Your Risk of Death? *The Power of a Headline on Your Health*
If this headline made you do a double take, you're not alone. We know that the nutrition world can be incredibly confusing, and frankly, incredibly annoying.Part of the reason I do this podcast is to vent about my frustrations about the industry, because sometimes it really is exhausting to see all of the contradictory information out there.  And it can leave us feeling like there’s not even a point in trying, which doesn’t serve us. Recently, a headline came out stating that intermittent fasting might be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular death  . . . which is a very dramatic statement. So in today’s episode, I want us to eat a major grain of salt and really break this all down, so you feel equipped to come to your own conclusions. We're covering:what I did immediately when this article was sent to mewhat was the study that made this claim?  was it a published study? why are observational studies tricky? let's play devil's advocate . . . what could be a reason for this finding? why could intermittent fasting increase the risk of cardiovascular death? why it could be more important that ever to focus on this one macronutrient the takeawaytoday's feelgood thing Want to stay in the loop about upcoming announcements and ways in which we can work together? Far from Placebo: The Rundown on Homeopathy with Rachel Roberts
If there’s a healing modality that can bring up some polarizing opinions… it’s homeopathy. Some say it’s incredibly effective (even where all else fails), some scoff it off as nothing but placebo. Others don’t understand what it is at all, or how to use it . . .So today- we’ve got an incredible expert on the show.  Rachel Roberts is the Chief Executive at the Homeopathy Research Institute, and she’s separating fact from fiction in today’s episode.Personally,  I’ve been using homeopathy  since I was a kid, and it’s something I continue to use today in conjunction in with other modalities (which is a big opinion I’ll get into in this episode).I believe it to be an incredibly useful tool in our toolbox, and for those who might not know what it is, or are feeling skeptical- today’s episode is definitely worth a listen. We're Covering: Rachel’s explanation of what homeopathy ishow she started as a major skeptic, and how that changed (*hint- the Royal Family played a part) not just placebo - what the evidence says known conditions that have more evidence Rachel’s opinion on “no side effects” when it comes to homeopathy (it’s not what you think!)challenges when it comes to homeopathic research homeopathy for agriculture and an alternative to pesticides damaging headlines Rachel’s feelgood thing About RachelRachel has a First-Class Honours degree in Biological Sciences specialising in Physiology from the University of Birmingham. Navigating Weight Loss & Impressive Entrepreneur Wins with Gina Livy
Today's guest is the wonderful Gina Livy.  Over the years I have received a lot of DMs from people asking me if I know Gina, if I'm familiar with her work and her weight loss approach. And my answer is always a resounding yes. And after today's conversation, I'm an even bigger fan than I was before.  We talk about her approach to weight-loss  in today's episode, BUT also get into her evolution as an entrepreneur, and getting told countless times that she’s charging TOO LITTLE for what she offers. But as you'll hear,  she came out on top - building a multimillion dollar business (we’re talking over 8 figures) - and she did that by following her gut. ***And I want to make the point that we do talk about weight-loss in this episode, and it can be a tricky subject to navigate. Especially because we just talked about body image last month on this very show. But I think it’s important to note that the two subjects are not synonymous. Weight does not correlate with worth, and I want to recognize that there are a lot of unhealthy obsessions and messaging about weight that we still hear about today. But the fact remains that some of us, at different points in our lives, might want to take steps to lose weight for a variety of reasons. And it’s important when that choice is made, to lose weight in a sustainable, healthy way and not some extreme crash diet that most of the time does NOT work. There are many healthy, sustainable ways to do it, and Gina’s Method, I believe, is one of them. We're covering:Gina's own journey with weight lossWhat the Livy Method isan underrated factor when it comes to successful weight-lossnavigating online hate when running a weight loss businessbuilding a massive business and going from a team of 1 to a team of 47Gina's feelgood thingGina's advice for any entrepreneur battling doubt About Gina: Gina Livy is the founder and CEO of Weight Loss by Gina, best selling author, and creator of The Livy Method. She is redefining weight loss with her revolutionary method that helps people lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way. Navigating Body Image, Bad Agents and Big Smiles with Jordan Gavaris!
Today, Jordan Gavaris is getting candid and honest (and charmingly funny). From body image issues and internalized shame, to navigating homophobic "advice" from agents and finding success on a massive scale in a harsh industry - we're getting into it all today.  And spilling some tea (both of us).We live in our own unique worlds, and when it comes to body image and how we see ourselves - that is a very personal, individual and sometimes LONELY thing. So in hearing more stories,  like Jordan's today - and getting insight into other people’s experiences, it can help expand our own understanding, and remind us that the journey of self-perception is personal BUT also universally shared. And hopefully it can lead us to be more compassionate towards ourselves.**Disclaimer: we talk body image, as well as eating disorders in todays episode. If this is a sensitive area for you please listen with caution, or not at all if it’s not the right fit for you at this time**We're covering a lot today, including:How Jordan's start in acting began and BlockBuster Days Body image reality after Jordan's first movie premier bad auditions and serendipitous moments Coming out Publicly - and Jordan's regret in a major interviewWatching out for 'give the gay away' tells a homophobic agent's advice to Jordan body shaming of the early 2000sExtremism to look thinBody image and self compassion evolution Navigating LA and the comparison gameJordan's feelgood thing About JordanJordan is an award-winning actor, you know him from shows like Orphan Black, Unnatural History and The Lake on Amazon Prime (and soon on Orphan Black: Echoes, and Hacks on HBO!).
