wrapped in tissue,
this precious gift,
whose whisper issued light,
is borne down
from hidden place.

He crowns,
and,
still umbilically bound,
is violently pushed out
onto a patch of borrowed floor.

A moment's silence
then
he, with knit together lungs,
at last draws breath
from fetid air
and calls once more to life.
