Main Point: God is glorified when His demands to fully follow Christ are met.

Being fit for God’s kingdom requires:

1. Denial to personal comfort.

  • Luke 9:58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
  • Galatians 5:24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
  • Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his crossdaily, and follow Me.

2. Denial to personal riches.

  • Luke 9:59 Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
  • 2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
  • Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God andmammon.

3. Denial to personal relations.

  • Luke 9:61 And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.”
  • 2 Corinthians 5:16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.
  • Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
  • Matthew 12:48 But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?”
