I. A home of love is a home led by people who have been taken from darkness to light.

  1. 1 John 2:7-8
  2. 1 Thessalonians 4:9 Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
  3. Colossians 1:12-14 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

II. A home of love is characterized by loving like Jesus demonstrates.

  1. John 2:8b Which is true in Him”
  2. Michael Houdmann from Got questions:  Jesus’ love is “His willingness to act in our best interest in meeting our greatest need, even though it costs him everything and even though we were least worthy.

This is the love we see when Jesus was faced with woman caught in adultery,

when Jesus cast out demons,

when he taught this new way of living in the sermon on the mount, when he reproached the “unrepenting cities” by saying woe to you (Matthew 11),

When he speaks to the pharisees of the unpardonable sin of rejection of Jesus (12),

when he gently tells Peter to not be afraid when he walks on water,

and also when he told the disciples they had little faith.

  1. Act in the best interest of others. (not just good, or even better but best)
  2. Acts that Meet greatest need first.
  3. Act of sacrifice
  4. Acts that extend to the most unworthy.

III. A home of love rejects all forms of hate, active and passive.

1 John 2:9, 11

IV, A home of love encourages confidence in Jesus.
