Our Editor's Take

Softball has become a popular women's collegiate sport over the last several decades. 7Innings is ESPN's official NCAA softball podcast. In this show, listeners find season-long coverage of exciting stories happening in the sport throughout the year. They also find ESPN's globally known, award-winning brand of journalism in full effect.

Amanda Scarborough is the host of this podcast. She is a former collegiate softball player for Texas A& M. During that time, she was a two-time NFCA All-American. She was also the 2005 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year. In 2007, she was the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year. She began her broadcasting career in 2009 with ESPN during the Super Regionals. In 2015, she started providing commentary for the Women's College World Series. This podcast is Scarborough's way of continuing her hosting duties in a different format.

Scarborough doesn't host the podcast alone. She often has the help of a rotating panel of softball experts, many of whom are former players. These include Michelle Smith, Courtney Lyle, Jen Schroeder, and Erin Miller. They help provide additional insights and challenge each other in exciting ways. This makes the podcast a fun and compelling listen.

An aspect of this podcast that fans are likely to appreciate is how thorough its reporting is. The program shares about softball games from all over the United States. This allows softball fans to keep track of multiple NCAA division games in a single podcast. In addition to providing game recaps and analysis, the hosts also report on news stories. The fact that many of them are former athletes lets them report on the game from a place of personal experience.

New episodes of 7Innings air during the collegiate softball season. These episodes air weekly on Wednesdays.
