Brought up in Liverpool with her Indian family, she garnered initial recognition as a teenager for her portrayal of Nisha Batra in Channel 4's "Brookside" from 1988 to 1991. Subsequently, she was one of the four leads in Channel 4's cult hit, "No Angels."Sunetra then established herself with a nearly nine-year stint as Dr Zoe Hanna in the long-running British medical drama series "Casualty," from 2007 to 2016. This portrayal of the dedicated and straight-talking doctor resonated with audiences and earned her critical acclaim. After her time on "Casualty," she has consistently added high-quality credits to her portfolio. These include leading roles in "Safe House 2" for ITV, five series of "Ackley Bridge" for Channel 4 (winning the Asian Media Award for best character 2019 and the Yorkshire RTS Best Actor 2022), and the BAFTA-nominated "Informer" (co-starring Bel Powley and Paddy Considine).She has also appeared in various television shows such as "Dr. Who," "The Bay," "Cold Feet," and the final series of "Broadchurch," bringing depth and authenticity to every character she embodies. Sunetra’s debut at the RSC in David Edgar's adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" received high praise from critics. More recently, she played a lead in the 4-part heist drama 'Desperate Measures' alongside Amanda Abbington and Warren Brown.
