Our Editor's Take

How Did This Get Made? is a podcast tribute to accidental masterpieces. It's a backhanded homage to movies that turn out great in unexpected, unintended ways. There is something magical about bad movies. Pop culture references them all the time. These movies are the best of the worst.

How Did This Get Made? is hosted by June Diane Raphael, Paul Scheer, and Jason Mantzoukas. Fans of movies or television will likely be familiar with these three. All of them are well-known within the comedy world. They met while performing together at the hallowed Upright Citizens' Brigade (UCB) in New York City. Paul and Jason became well-known as cast members on TV's the League. Meanwhile, Raphael's career was also rising, and she and Sheer got married. Their shared love of so-bad-they're-good movies helped inspire this hilarious podcast.

They watch (and comment on) the world's biggest box office failures with special guests. The results are humorous, of course, but our knowledgeable hosts also examine the logistics behind these comically bad films. There is lively banter, astute observation, and a real-time appreciation for these lousy movies. Despite their downright absurdity, many of the movies have redeeming qualities. Something about them is charming, impactful, and worthwhile.

Listeners can tag along for the world's best worst movie night. The commentary is hilariously entertaining, and the movies hold their own even when they are uniquely terrible. For film buffs, How Did This Get Made? is a journey through some of the worst investments in cinema history. For casual movie fans, it is a hilarious introduction to some of Hollywood's most puzzling productions. Either way, listeners are sure to find hours of entertainment.

Matinee Monday: Street Fighter (w/ John Gemberling)
Finally a movie stayed true to its video game adaptation by having no plot. John Gemberling joins Paul, June, and Jason to figure out who is a native of Shadaloo, why Jean-Claude Van Damme pretends to be dead for a really long time, and what the hell was the reason for Van Damme to play a home video tape while driving a boat. They’ll also share their favorite lines, explore all the shoehorned elements of the video game, and explain to June what “street fighting” really means.
