Our Editor's Take

The Readheads Book Club is a podcast for people who love to read. The host is Jackie Oshry and her best friends. Oshry is a social media personality. She also cohosts The Morning Toast, a celebrity news podcast, with her sister Claudia.

Oshry meets with friends Margo, Dana, Jackie, and Becky every month to discuss a book. The book gets announced on the previous podcast episode so listeners can read along. To keep providing variety, everyone gets a turn to choose a book. There is fantasy, such as The Midnight Library, Ghosts of Gotham, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. They read thrillers, including The It Girl, The Husband's Secret, and A Slow Fire Burning. They choose historical fiction such as Code Name Hélène and An American Duchess. They get serious with Detransition, Baby, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Page turners like We Are The Brennans also get The Readheads Book Club treatment.

Like a real book club, the women on the The Readheads Book Club start the show by chatting about what they've been doing. They then get to the main topic of the podcast. Oshry moves the conversation along by asking questions about the book. The questions are submissions from the readers, so there's a lot of variety. If the hosts could give advice to the book's characters, what would it be? What is their opinion of some of the themes of each book?

After the discussion, the book club gives each book the Hollywood treatment. Who would be the best actors for a movie version of the story? They compare choices and reach a consensus. After that, the hosts rank the book on a scale of one to five. Finally, the cohosts talk about the other books they have read that month.

The Readheads Book Club is a fun listen, especially for millennials. Listeners looking for book ideas may appreciate the book list. Oshry and her friends tend to choose books outside the bestsellers list, so there's much to discover.
