Love in Gravity is a fiction podcast about love in Latinx communities. It started out as a series of short stories. Subsequent seasons focus on one story arc. Through its poignant stories, the show seeks to reduce the stigma around HIV and AIDS. Young Latinx people make up the second largest group in the US with HIV infections. At the same time, they're less likely to get tested. When they learn about their status, they are less likely to seek treatment. This is due to factors like lack of access and social stigma. For some, fear of deportation is enough to stop them from getting help. High rates of infection within this population are a complicated problem. As such, it requires a multi-pronged solution.
Through its poignant stories, Love in Gravity strives to reduce the stigma around HIV and AIDS. In one story, Andrés goes home to celebrate his sister's quinceañera. During his visit, his traditional mother discovers his secret. She also learns about his non-monogamous lifestyle. Where he fears condemnation, Andrés receives acceptance and a newfound closeness with his family. Another story is about Amaury. While at a high school reunion, he runs into an old lover who shares his HIV positive diagnosis with him. Amaury must come to terms with his own status, as well as the possibility that he has infected others.
