Our Editor's Take

The hosts of You Can Sip With Us created a podcast to talk about things they wanted to hear others discuss. Ashlie and Colleen are women in their thirties trying to balance their careers with kids and social life. The pair feel that not enough people discuss this part of life, with all the challenges and joy it brings. Many women hide their struggles and ignore small achievements. Ashlie and Colleen hope to use this platform to make other women feel less alone. They celebrate life, complain where appropriate, joke, and talk things through to find the best solutions.

The podcast hosts met back in college and developed a fast love affair. They had the same sense of humor and made most events enjoyable for everyone around them. People often told Ashlie and Colleen they were so funny that they should start a TV show together. That opportunity almost happened when a producer approached Ashlie on social media. He was from the Food Network and wanted to create a duo show.

Ashlie and Colleen made an audition tape. Nothing emerged, but the chemistry was so strong they decided to keep it going. The pair started a YouTube channel, going to different restaurants in Portland. When Ashlie moved to Arizona, the two felt they needed a new project to keep up the friendship. That's where the podcast idea came from. It was an excuse for them to chat with each other twice a week.

Topics on You Can Sip With Us range from baby names to parenting while being sick. Ashlie and Colleen gripe about long flights and mom guilt. These experienced shoppers like to recommend anything from beach gear to kitchen essentials. They also enjoy playing games with each other, like "20 Questions" and "Never Have I Ever." Sometimes, the podcast discusses serious topics such as the menstrual cycle or depression. Ashlie and Colleen usually manage to keep the discussions entertaining and informative.
