Our Editor's Take

Murder, She Told is a true crime podcast. This show is great for listeners interested in investigative journalism and unsolved cases. It details lesser-known crimes spanning from the 1800s through to the modern day. It's intriguing, enlightening, and sometimes unsettling.

Some may like to think that small towns contain only friendly people. They might believe that nothing can happen in "their" hometown. Murder, She Told shows the exact opposite of this. It focuses on true crime in Maine and New England, detailing unsolved cases from years ago. But beyond that, it also looks into similar stories from other small towns. It's surprising how widespread these crimes are. It might even have audiences reconsidering if nothing bad happens near them.

Murder, She Told uses an investigative lens, helping listeners uncover the root of the issue. The show contains interviews with first-person witnesses, victims' families, and others involved. It's easy to see how much research has gone into each case. The show presents new facts and previously unreleased information. So even in situations with a prosecution, further evidence suggests the case is not solved. These are the stories that don't quite sit right or feel "off" in some way.

Podcast host Kristen Seavey conveys each story in a straightforward, informative manner. She is also an actor and avid storyteller. Her way of speaking is calm and clear. She leaves no confusion and accurately reports the details. Also, being from Maine herself, she has a personal interest in the stories shared. She believes that "every small town has a story."

Find out about the lesser-known true crime cases in small towns across America in Murder, She Told. These narratives put the victim's story at the center of every episode. Avid listeners of true crime and investigative journalism may find the show intriguing. But it's also for lovers of mysteries, good storytelling, and solving historical cases.

The Murders of Rhonda and Cor'an Johnson

The Murders of Rhonda and Cor'an Johnson
1996 - Stamford, Connecticut. Becoming a teenage mother didn’t stop 18-year-old Rhonda Johnson from pursuing her dreams. In fact, it only gave her more motivation. While working part time at the hospital, Rhonda was also busy taking classes at the community college. Her drive was fueled by the commitment to a promising future—not just for herself—but also for her 8-month-old son, Cor'an. That dream was stolen on the evening of September 12th, 1996 when both mother and baby were found dead in Rhonda’s mother’s car. They’d both been shot.  This incredibly senseless act of violence stirred up heartbreak and fury in the Stamford community. What kind of person shoots a young woman and her baby in cold blood? Rhonda’s mother, Blanche, couldn’t fathom why anyone would want to hurt her daughter let alone an innocent baby. She has fond and bittersweet memories of her daughter and grandson, and she is sharing them on Murder, She Told. This is the story of Rhonda and Cor'an Johnson. The Theresa Corley Story, Part One
Dec 5 2023
The Theresa Corley Story, Part One
1978 - Bellingham, Massachusetts. At the age of 19, Theresa Corley held a promising future. As the first of nine siblings to pursue college—a goal she worked to finance herself—she had aspirations of becoming a pediatrician.  But on the night of December 5th, 1978, Theresa, who was out celebrating with friends at Franklin's Train Stop bar, didn't return home. Her friend’s said they last saw her leaving the bar sometime before midnight on foot following a fight with her boyfriend. Theresa didn’t have a car, and the trek home was miles away.  Three days later, on December 8th, her nude body was discovered halfway down a steep ditch on the side of the highway. She had been strangled. As investigators dug into the mystery of Theresa’s final hours alive, unsettling narratives surrounding a party at a nearby apartment came to light, placing Theresa there after she left the bar. What secrets were being hidden in that apartment? Were they connected to Theresa’s murder? Determined to discover what really happened, Theresa’s sister, Gerri Houde, has embarked on a relentless quest for the truth; and she’s telling her story on Murder, She Told.  This is part one of Theresa Corley’s story. Identifying Susan Lund with Laurah Norton

Identifying Susan Lund with Laurah Norton
1992 - Clarksville, Tennessee. On the evening of December 24, 1992, 25-year-old Susan Lund left her home for ingredients to make a pie. The young mother never returned home. About a month later, female remains were located 300 miles away in Ina, Illinois, but investigators couldn't figure out who she was. 30 years later, the woman known only as Ina Jane Doe was finally identified as Susan Minard Lund. Susan's murder remains unsolved. Laura Norton, host of The Fall Line and One Strange Thing podcast, spent more than a year working with and learning from forensic experts across the country as she collaborated with anthropologists, DNA experts, and investigative genetic genealogists to help identify Susan Lund. Her new book, Lay Them to Rest, takes a fascinating deep dive into the dark world of forensic science, and a personal look at the people behind the scenes working to solve decades old mysteries. Today, Laurah joins me on Murder, She Told for a conversation about what it's like working to reconnect the names of the unidentified, how she approaches cold case and Jane Doe research, and what investigators need from you to help find Susan's killer.
