Our Editor's Take

Film critic and podcast host Brett Arnold brings his listeners into the world of movies. The Roger (Ebert) & Me: Movie Reviews podcast honors the life of the great Roger Ebert. Roger was a well-known and influential film critic at the Chicago Sun-Times. He worked there from 1967 until he died in 2013. He had a unique way of keeping the art of film criticism alive. In 1975, Roger was the first film critic to win a Pulitzer Prize.

To remember his work, Brett started the Roger (Ebert) & Me: Movie Reviews podcast. The title and the podcast graphics imitate Michael Moore's 1989 documentary Roger & Me. He began the series by rewatching old Siskel & Ebert episodes. That was a weekly film review television show hosted by Roger and Gene Siskel. Brett will watch the old movies that the duo critiqued and reevaluate the film from a modern-day perspective.

As time went on, this podcast had more of a modern focus. Brett argues about movies with his guest. Most of the time, it's Mark Dujsik, a fellow movie fanatic. Every Friday, Brett and his guest review the new films released that week. They follow the Siskel & Ebert format with brief and digestible movie reviews. Then, they tell listeners if the film is worth a night out at the movies.

Fans of that old show may find Roger (Ebert) & Me: Movie Reviews familiar. Brett reviews current movies and Oscar contenders. He analyzes some of Hollywood's best films. He also talks about movies that might come out in one theater in New York and nowhere else. And he gives his listeners a chance to see all the beauty in these films through his eyes before they see it for the first time.

Brett honors Roger in such a beautiful way in the Roger & Me podcast. Filmmakers, film critics, and moviegoers alike will enjoy these thoughtful and entertaining episodes.
