EXTRA EPISODE: Pinch Me Moments
As we have very sadly come to the end of series one of the podcast, I have a special extra episode for you. If you're one of our lovely regular listeners, you will know that in each episode, I always ask our guests to share a 'pinch me moment'. So this episode is a compilation of all of our incredible guests from series one sharing their 'pinch me moment' stories. So if you don't quite understand what a 'pinch me moment' is yet, let me explain it to you. These are the tiny moments that happen all the time while travelling where you just look around and this 'wow, I can't believe I'm here and I can't believe I'm seeing this.' They are the moments that take your breath away, change your perspective or simply just when you pause, look around and appreciate how far you've come. We've had a great first series of this podcast and I'm so grateful for all of you who have joined us on this journey as listeners and our incredible guests. For me, at least, sharing these stories is really what travelling is all about.  Series two will be coming soon with even more inspiring adventurers sharing their epic travel stories. If you think you would be a great guest on the podcast or you know if someone who might, please get in touch. From August, I will be based in Sydney, Australia for in-person conversations or we can do them over Skype. I would love to hear from you.  I hope you enjoy this little compilation of series ones guests sharing their 'pinch me moments'...   Our Instagram: @StorytimeForTravellers   Do you love to travel? As this is the last episode of Series One, I have an extra special guest for you guys. It's my dad, Chris Modell. The reason that I wanted to feature my dad on the last episode of this series is because he is kind of the reason that Storytime For Travellers came to be. When I was a child, instead of bedtime stories, I would always beg my dad to tell me stories of his adventures over and over again and I really believe that this is the reason that I love travelling so much. My dad first started travelling when he was 21 and got a job as a photographer on cruise ships. He did that around the Caribbean for 7 years until he decided to buy a boat with his friend and set sail on the adventure of a lifetime. Having never sailed before they embarked on a one year journey from Mexico across the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand, stopping off on islands along the way. Once he arrived in New Zealand, he worked as a kayak instructor and met my mum who was backpacking - their story is actually pretty romantic. She was meant to fly to the US the next day but two hours before her flight she turned back and decided to stay in New Zealand with the man she had met only one day before. They then continued travelling together before coming back to the UK and have done lots of travelling since. My dad has now swapped boats for two wheels and has done motorbike adventures to places like Mexico, Vietnam, Iceland, India and more, writing articles for a magazine called Upshift Online. In our conversation, we chat: being invited to a local feast on a tiny island in the Pacific, motorbiking the most dangerous road in the world in India and having dolphins lead his boat to land as he reached his first Pacific island - plus loads more...  Chris's Instagram: @swaggrandad  Chris's documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT-mV1_ao5c Our Instagram: @StorytimeForTravellers   Do you love to travel? Tim Burke is a photographer who is travelling the world on his motorbike. So far, he has hit 56 countries across 4 continents. He's spent 26 months on the road, got through 17 tires and travelled 72,000 miles. His story is pretty epic. In April 2017, Tim quit his job, sold his things, packed up his motorbike and headed to Europe where he began his adventure. He hasn't looked back since and he is currently on a 6/7 month journey from Cape Town to Scotland with the support of Rentamotorcycle - which, strangely, is kind of how I know Tim. In 2017, Tim went on a motorbike trip through Scotland with my dad for an article they were writing for Upshift Online and they became great friends. Tim stayed in contact with the team at Rentamotorcycle in Edinburgh who have now helped him to build a motorbike for his journey through Africa. I was lucky enough to catch Tim before he set off on his trip and record some of his incredible stories from his adventures. Trust me, you want to hear this.  In our conversation we chat taking his motorbike up an erupting volcano to get the photograph of a lifetime, riding through Honduras on the brink of civil war and doing donuts in a Lamborghini in front of the parliament building in Bulgaria - plus loads more. Katy Johnson is a model, actress, travel journalist and the founder of her non-profit organisation, One Model Mission. She is visiting every country in the world - that's 196 countries - interviewing women of all cultures and redefining the perception of true beauty. Her aim is to highlight the misconceptions of beauty around the world and create a documentary series highlighting the struggles of being a woman in different societies. She is currently on country number 72 and has already interviewed 57 incredible women. Katy struggled with depression and anorexia in her teenage years and body image, particularly in the entertainment industry in Hollywood, is still something she battles with. But these challenges have been the fuel to her fire for her strive for women's empowerment and equality. Through her project, One Model Mission, she hopes to combine her passion for travel with her purpose to find true beauty in women around the world and, trust me, she has collected some brilliant stories along the way. In our conversation we chat getting locked in a mosque in Bosnia, being rescued after her car broke down by a family in Tbilisi and getting picked up while hitchhiking by the winner of The Voice in Kazakhstan - plus loads more.  Katy's Instagram: @iamkatyjohnson and @onemodelmission Katy's website: https://www.onemodelmission.com Our Instagram: @StorytimeForTravellers Do you love to travel?
