Constructing You

Elinor Moshe

The construction and property industries are people industries, after all. Except, typically when we look at our built form, and ask, ‘who built this?’, the answer is a name of a company. But who are the people behind the projects, who are the ones who have brought them to life? That’s why my multiple award-winning podcast, Constructing You, looks at the people behind the projects, and I’m starting at the top. I’ll be sharing interviews with exceptional leaders, industry titans and young guns with you. I’m not only going to find out what they do, but also who they are, and who they’ve had to become to achieve what they have. What does it really take to become an exemplary, excellent and exceptional person behind the projects? Because I want to inspire and ignite you to become not just a technically apt person on projects. I want you to become an exemplary person behind the project, via learning from the people who have already made it. I want you to aim as high as the skyscrapers in your career, and life, by sharing the successful journeys of others so you can see what’s possible. Are you ready to work on your greatest project ever? read less

In Reflection - 2023

In Reflection - 2023
Every week since I started breaking down my own psyche I send an email to my coach titled in reflection. Sharing the syncronichies, revelations, awakenings and new found awarenesses that the universe delivered me as the week unfolded. At times I would sit there thinking what could possibly show up, it’s been a quite week and then BAM, something would be delivered. But why – why stop, why let the wheels fall off?   Power opposing independence! The world told me I was a success, it kept on confirming it but I’ve always lived in two realities, and it’s the reality that was numbed and suppressed because it was too painful to acknowledge was the underlying driver of my life. And I had to face it this year, it was delivered to me, rolled like a ball at my feet, and I had to hear the calling. Until you don’t confront what is numbed and suppressed within, that is unconsciously running your life, it is like a house on sand. My house was built on sand, and the sand began washing away, and so the house fell. As it needed to, as it still is, because what the destruction had to offer and has to offer is so beautiful. Parts of me that I didn’t even know existed, have just come online, and I realised that the level of pleasure one can experience is only relative to the pain they can experience, and both are awakening, revealing and beautiful. If you have been listening to the show this year, I again thank you for choosing this space and for taking value from the show. I couldn’t always deliver this year, as literally, my wheels fell off, and I had to stop and inspect the vehicle. Thoroughly. Join me in January for the secret series, where co-authors from SOTCI have joined to bring disruptive perspectives and truths to you, in anticipation of the release of our anthology. I’m extremely proud of it, and I know it’s going to serve its purpose of lodging a spanner in the minds of many, because not to dissimilar to what I’ve been speaking on, something needs to enter to break your mind so you can experience far more than what is currently in your realm. I wish you a blessed and abundance Christmas if you celebrate, as I do a prosperous, abundant and growth filled new year. I wish you all the best and nothing less, and if you choose to be back next year, then all I can say is, we’re going somewhere so vastly different than where we have been, and the invitation is always open for you to join. Until 2024, here’s to constructing you….

Constructing You with Matt Perrott - Creating BuildPass, Entrepreneurial Success Principles
Co-founder of BuildPass, Matt Perrott, began his working life with hands-on labouring experience doing shop fittings while employed as a lifeguard on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, at notorious surf beaches such as Gunnamatta and Portsea.  At The University of Melbourne Matt completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Civil Engineering and Finance), where he was first exposed to powerful software like CAD, which stoked his natural curiosity in how digital tools could be utilised for building. This drew Matt to further his education at The University of Melbourne with a Masters in Software Engineering, graduating with First Class Honours. During university, Matt’s love for building and digital spurred his first foray into the app world, launching an online community platform called Jufl that helped students create friendships and networks through spontaneous lunch catch-ups.  After his first taste of the tech world, Matt was hooked. And it wasn’t long until his drive to discover more about how technology could be used to improve day-to-day life, particularly in a business setting, saw him seek out a career in software development. Matt’s first full-time role at a technology business was with EverProof, a digital platform that provides secure access to sensitive documentation. Here Matt worked in the business development and strategy teams, where he grew his sales toolkit while observing how small software teams can work together efficiently. After a year at EverProof, Matt doubled-down on his move into technology, landing a graduate role with REA Group where he rotated throughout the business, deepening his technical ability and knowledge in operational processes that drive sustained success. In 2019 while working on REA Group’s peer-working platform, Spacely, Matt met his BuildPass co-founder, Aaron Vanston.

Mark Greenhill OAM on Constructing You - Leadership learned from Crisis, Managing Relations with High Stakes
Mark first worked as a union official in the 90s and then went on to be a senior advisor to the NSW’s longest serving Premier The Hon Bob Carr MP. He later went on to become Chief of Staff to Minister Grant McBride.  Following his time in NSW State Parliament, ran for a seat in the Blue Mountains City Council. The City of Blue Mountains is one of only two cities in the world surrounded by a UNESCO declared World Heritage National Park Area. With a spectacular environmental setting, the Blue Mountains is home to a community of nearly 80,000 people living in 27 towns and villages located over 100 km of mountainous terrain. As a passionate environmentalist, Mark was inspired to run for Council to stop a development he thought would have a detrimental impact on the native flora and fauna. Mark was elected in 1999. He has served 20 years as a Councillor, and has been Mayor of the Blue Mountains Council for the past 10 years. This is the longest time ever served by a Mayor in this Council, and the second longest time after Councillor Clover Moore AO, Lord Mayor of Sydney. In 2016 Mark was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to local government and to the community of the Blue Mountains. This was also in recognition of the extraordinary efforts he went to support the people of the Blue Mountains after the devastating impact of the 2013 and Black Summer Fires. He established the Mayoral Relief Fund and raised millions of dollars for those who lost their homes. He was also awarded National Emergency Medal by the Governor General for his service as a Fire Fighter during the Black Summer Fires, and the Western Sydney University Community Leadership Award for his leadership during the 2013 fires Mark was named Climate Ambassador in 2020 by the Climate Council for his work as Mayor of the Blue Mountains in publicly drawing the link between the Black Summer Fires and climate change. For Mark, leading the recovery processes from those bushfire events, helping people put their lives back together, and seeing them resettled in their homes are the two most rewarding things from his time in local government. He maintains the inspiration you draw from communities in extremis – their unity of purpose and their individual and collective bravery – has been a very rewarding part of the job. Industrial relations career: Mark has had a 20-year career in industrial relations. He has experience working for the CMFEU, as Head of Industrial Relations for RailCorp NSW, Endeavour Energy, Networks NSW, UGL, Ventia and now at Bouygues Construction Australia. He is a commercially focused and legally trained Executive Human Resources professional with expertise in industrial relations, employee relations, change management and leadership. He has managed complex and high-profile Enterprise Agreement negotiations, workplace investigations and disciplinary matters, supported reform initiatives and reduced operating expenditure through improved employee relations and management practices. He has experience at the highest levels of business, government and media coupled with extensive knowledge of contemporary employment/ industrial relations management.
