The Follow Up - Revelation 21 & 22 | Week 20
Welcome to The Follow Up, where we recap this week's sermon so you can go deeper in your relationship with Jesus!  This week, Carrie is joined by Pastor Jack and Pastor Jeff Lederer as they discuss Revelation 21 and the first 5 verses of 22, on the fulfillment of God's promises.  So here we are: we've finally reached the conclusion of our series on Revelations.  What a journey it has been.  And there are plenty of questions left to answer!  The following are questions that will be addressed in this episode:0:00 Opening/Welcome1:00 First Question - The Culmination of the BibleExplain how the passage this week is a culmination of the whole Bible.4:40 Second Question - God's Care In The Face of SufferingIn Revelation 21:4, it says, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes." How does this promise impact your understanding of God's comfort and care in the face of suffering?6:53 Third Question - Heaven and the New JerusalemHow does the description of the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21 verses 9-27 inspire your vision of heaven? What aspects stand out to you the most?11:16 First Congregation Question - Healing of NationsWhy do the nations require healing and why does evil continue to exist outside the city in the new heaven and earth described in Revelation 21 verses 24-27 and 22 verse 2 and 14?15:44 Second Congregation Question - The Dimensions of the New JerusalemConsidering the vastness of the universe, why is the New Jerusalem described as only 1400 miles cubed in Revelation 21? How will we all fit, can you clarify this?18:46 Third Congregation Question - The Church's Mission and EvangelismRevelation chapter 22, verse 10 suggests letting the unrighteous continue in their ways. How does this align with the church's mission to transform the world, and what does it mean for our approach to evangelism and living out our faith?24:34 Fourth Congregation Question - From This World to the NextIf the promise of a new heaven and new earth in Revelation 21:1 were to happen tomorrow, what is one thing you would hope to carry over from this life to the next?25:57 Fifth Congregation Question - Disagreeing PerspectivesHow are we to be of one mind as a church when we have disagreeing perspectives about eschatology. Doesn't God give us Christians the same message? Doesn't God care about the minors as well as the majors? 29:45 Outro/GoodbyeSubscribe for more in-depth discussions and weekly updates on our biblical seriesFind Study Guides at springlakechurch.org/study-guides Connect with us!springlakechurch.org/getconnectedspringlakechurch.orgNeed Prayer? Pastor Jack Guerra continues in our Revelation sermon series. Revelation: The Ultimate VictoryWeek 20Highlights: ‭‭‭‭We do not want merely to see beauty, though, God knows, even that is bounty enough.  We want something else with can hardly be put into words- to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to bathe in it, to become part of it.  -C.S. Lewis‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21‬:‭1‬-‭27‬‬; ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭22‬:‭1‬-‭5‬‬1. The Unlimited Presence of God! (‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21‬:‭11‬‬; ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21‬:‭23‬-‭24; ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭22‬:‭5‬‬)2. The fulfillment of what God intended! (‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21‬:‭3‬‬Genesis 1-3 compared to Revelation 21-22- In Genesis, God provided a bride to his son Adam. In Revelation he will present a bride to the last Adam, his son Jesus.  This will be the marriage we were made to enjoy!- In Genesis, God gave Adam and Eve a land.  Their children were meant to inherit that land.  In Revelation, We are given the New Earth. Land that we were always meant to inherit.  (Romans 4:13)- In Genesis, God told Adam and Eve to multiply and fill the earth.  In Revelation, the entire world is represented in heaven.  Every race, tribe and tongue.  A unified and multicultural picture of what was supposed to happen from the beginning!- In Genesis, before mankind put a wall between God and ourselves, He walked in the garden and talked with us.  In Revelation, God will dwell with his people personally in every corner of the Earth.  The glory of God we were meant to bask in from the beginning.  - In Genesis, God planted the tree of life at the center of the garden to nourish and sustain people.  In Revelation, the nations will be welcomed into a new garden where all will find healing and wholeness, fullness of satisfaction and provision.  This is the life, the healing, and the satisfaction we were made to enjoy forever!3.  It’s a new heaven and new earth (‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21‬:‭1‬-‭6‬‬)4. Pastor Jeff Lederer continues in our Revelation sermon series. Revelation: The Ultimate VictoryWeek 20Highlights: ‭‭‭‭‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21‬:‭1‬-‭27‬‬; ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭22‬:‭1‬-‭5‬‬Heaven comes down“I know men, and I tell you Jesus Christ was not a [mere] man. Superficial minds see a resemblance between Christ and the founders of empires and the gods of other religions. That resemblance does not exist. There is between Christianity and other religions the distance of infinity. Alexander, Cæsar, Charlemagne and myself founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon sheer force. Jesus Christ alone founded His empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men will die for Him.- Napoleon Bonaparte1. The Unlimited Presence of God!2. Removal of Sin and Suffering (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭65‬:‭17‬-‭19‬‬; ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭65‬:‭25‬‬)3. The fulfillment of what God intended (‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭42‬-‭49‬‬)4. It’s a New Heaven and a New Earth (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭65‬:‭21‬-‭24‬‬)“I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been look- ing for all my life, though I never knew it till now. The reason why we loved the old Narnia is that it sometimes looked a little like this. Bree-hee- hee! Come further up, come further in!” - C. S. Lewis, The Last Battle“The possibilities that now rise before us boggle the mind. Will there be ‘better Beethovens’ on the new earth? better Rembrandts, better Raphaels? Shall we read better poetry, better drama, and better prose? Will scientists continue to advance in technological achievement, will geologists continue to dig out the treasures of the earth, and will architects continue to build imposing and attractive structures? Will there be exciting new adventures in space travel? . . . Our culture will glorify God in ways that surpass our most fantastic dreams.” - Anthony HoekemaEmail your Revelation Questions to social@springlakechurch.org Find Study Guides at springlakechurch.org/study-guides Connect with us!springlakechurch.org/getconnectedspringlakechurch.orgNeed Prayer? The Follow Up - Revelation 20:11-15 | Week 19
Welcome to The Follow Up, where we recap this week's sermon so you can go deeper in your relationship with Jesus!  This week, Carrie is joined by Pastor Adam and Pastor Bill as they discuss Revelation 20, verses 11 through 15, and the final judgement.  And yes it's as weighty a discussion as you would expect.  From the record of all our wrongdoings (nothing we do is hidden), to the Book of Life, to addressing the matter of free will and predetermination, the Pastors answer these many questions submitted through our e-mail by the congregation, which we had in abundance this time!  Below are the questions explored in this episode:0:00 Opening/Welcome1:08 First Question - The Great White ThroneWhy do you think the throne in verse 11 is described as “great” and “white”? What might the color white represent in this context?2:27 Second Question - The Symbolization of the Books Verse 12 talks about books being opened, including the Book of Life. What do you think these books symbolize, and what does it mean to have your name written in the Book of Life?5:30 Third Question - God's Judgement of our DeedsThe passage mentions that the dead are judged according to their deeds. How do you understand the relationship between our deeds and God’s judgment?6:37 First Congregation Question - The Judgement of Believers? In Revelation Chapter 20, verses 12 and 13, it says the dead are judged according to what they had done. Are believers judged at this time? In 2 Corinthians 5:10 Paul seems to include himself among those who will be judged. How can believers be judged according to what we have done if we are saved by grace?11:03 Second Congregation Question - The Lake of FireWhat does it mean that Death and Hades are thrown into the lake of fire?12:50 Third Congregation Question - The Book of Life and Free WillDoes Revelation 17:8 imply that people's names are written in the book of life from the foundation of the world? If so, what does that say about free will?20:15 Fourth Congregation Question - Timing of the RaptureWe are new to Spring Lake Church and are enjoying your series on Revelation.  We haven’t heard all the messages and so if you have already covered my question, my apologies. I haven’t heard much on the rapture. Do you believe we will be raptured before the tribulation or at Jesus return?27:55 Outro/GoodbyeEmail your Revelation Questions to social@springlakechurch.org Subscribe for more in-depth discussions and weekly updates on our biblical seriesFind Study Guides at springlakechurch.org/study-guides Connect with us!springlakechurch.org/getconnectedspringlakechurch.orgNeed Prayer?
