The Truth

The Truth

THE TRUTH makes movies for your ears. They're short stories that are sometimes dark, sometimes funny, and always intriguing. Every story is different, but they all take you to unexpected places using only sound. If you're new, some good starting places are: Silvia's Blood, That's Democracy, Moon Graffiti, Tape Delay, or whatever's most recent. Listening with headphones is encouraged! We're a proud member of Radiotopia from PRX.

Our Editor's Take

Jonathan Mitchell is the person behind The Truth. But he is not the host of the podcast since this is not the type of show that needs one. This scripted fiction podcast needs no introduction. Instead, it jumps straight into the action. Much like a movie, or a TV show, it's up to the listeners to figure out what's going on for themselves.

So instead of hosting, Mitchell is the director and the sound designer of the audio fiction podcast. He works with a group of talented actors, most from the Magnet Theater and the Upright Citizens Brigade. It's people who performed in famous places like Lincoln Center and in shows like The Big Sick and Murderville. Dennis Pacheco, Federico Rodriguez, and Ann Carr are among the actors. The sound design for this New York-based podcast is also top-notch.

Together, they create a different audio drama every two weeks. They tell compelling narratives about a jock and a geek who switched bodies and got stuck for ten years. They weave tales about a magician revealing the truest wonders of the universe. They explore the depths of a father-son relationship.

For about 20 to 30 minutes, Mitchell and the actors transport the listeners into a made-up world. Their goal is to leave the listeners with a lingering thought or emotion. To make them continue pondering about the episode long after they finished listening.

Thanks to Mitchell's 25 years in audio production, every new episode feels as real as a movie. He is a master of his craft and has won numerous awards for his work. These include the Peabody, the Gold Mark Time, and many other awards. He has also mentored international public radio stations in Switzerland and Germany, among others. Stories from The Truth have been featured in other reputable podcasts. This American Life, The Story, and Story 360 are all fans of this show. It is a true delight for anyone who enjoys thought-provoking radio drama.
