Tune in for Episode#6 of Season 3, when Pon Angara, VisionReady’s Creative Director and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with Yvette Steele, VP Technology Talent, Strategic Partnerships & National Expansion at SnapIT Solutions.Yvette is a passionate executive who helps businesses realize the promise of a diverse workforce through the implementation of data driven initiatives that eradicate barriers many face in launching and thriving in tech careers, maximizing their potential, and integrating inclusion into day-to-day interactions. "If you're a solopreneur and you own a company with one to ten employees, your approach will be starkly different than one who has dozens or hundreds of employees," points out Yvette. "What many soloprenuers fail to realize, though, is that they are not too small top leverage diversity even if they are a company of one." Yvette has been recognized as a diversity thought leader on the Channel Futures DE&I 101 List for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through words, actions, and leadership and has served on the DEI Advisory Committee for YMCA-USA, the Tech Advisory Board Steering Committee for the National Urban League, and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force for Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. Toward the end of our podcast, Yvette helps us further by broadening the meaning and impact of diversity for business success. "When you think about the way we can make an impact as leaders, socializing with other leaders who are doing the same things we're doing and have different skill sets from ours and are more successful at it, benefits us," says Yvette. "These are people who we should emulate and identify as role models so we not only go through the challenges but also grow through the challenges." Watch the full interview with DEI Insider Founder Yvette Steele on our podcast channels today. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ€™ πŸ€™ πŸ“Ί Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt YourDay:  Disrupt Your Day - YouTube You're only one connection away from success. Tune in for Episode#5 of Season 3, when Pon Angara, VisionReady’s Creative Director and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with Pattie Sheehan, Certified Mastectomy Fitter and Owner of Second Act Cancer Recovery Boutique in Chicago.Pattie graduated college in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and started what would become her dream career in Advertising. The challenges were many as advertising account management was a "man's job" back then but Pattie persevered, eventually becoming vice president of client services for a mid-sized ad agency for more than a decade. But, at age 53, that agency closed and Pattie faced the agism that many older professionals encounter.β€œIn February 2005 my mother Tess, age 80, was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer," recalls Pattie. "I watched her struggle to maintain her dignity, never losing her sense of self or her sense of humor, and all the while reaching out to others as they β€˜joined the club’. When she died in June 2007 I realized what I needed to do for my second act."In 2008 she made a colossal career shift opening Second Act Cancer Recovery Boutique and in 2020 was named Certified Mastectomy Fitter of the Year by Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine. Today, at age 70, she continues to operate Second Act, Chicago's only ABCOP accredited mastectomy boutique, serving breast cancer patients and survivors from throughout the Chicagoland area."Second Act embraces the belief that life is an ongoing creative project and that everyone has the power to envision the life we desire, even after unexpected, sometimes devastating, circumstances," says Pattie. "In this spirit Second Act helps individuals facing physical changes retain their self-esteem, regain their self-image and thrive."Watch the full interview in which Pattie shares how she chose to become a pioneer in her industry, persevered through the uphill climb, and built a reputation in Chicagoland as the go-to source for breast cancer patients and survivors seeking physical transformation for their emotional well-being.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ€™ πŸ€™ If you want a free 30-minute Business Strategy call on how to build your brand and take your business to the next level, schedule a call with us: https://diverse.visionready.org/strategy πŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.instagram.com/visionreadyinchttps://www.linkedin.com/company/visionreadyπŸ“Ί Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt YourDay:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDXw2bcMzqPJ486aSFJ0hQ Listen on your FAV platform: https://disruptyourday.buzzsprout.comπŸ“° Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://diverse.visionready.org/newsletterYou're only one connection away from success. Capital and Advocacy: How Black founders can find support to scale and grow their companies.Tune in for Episode #4 of Season 3, when Pon Angara, VisionReady’s Creative Director and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with Delmarie Cobb, veteran journalist and a fierce advocate for underserved communities. She was the first African American to serve as press secretary of the Democratic National Convention in 1996 and served as the Illinois press secretary for Hillary Clinton's historic presidential bid in 2016.To pass on her wealth of experience and knowledge, she founded the Ida B. Wells Legacy Committee, a political action committee whose purpose is to develop the next generation of progressive African-American women candidates who are willing to speak truth to power and work in the best interests of their constituents, keep voters informed, and engage political activists around public policy decisions.Delmarie grew up in a family wherein politics was a regular topic of conversation. Her journalism and publicity career began in the newsroom where she worked as a television reporter. The stories she covered helped to grow her dream to work for a presidential campaign in the future. After serving as the national traveling press secretary to presidential candidate Jesse Jackson in 1988, she decided to marry her love for media and politics by starting her own venture, The Publicity Works, a Chicago-based, public affairs, political consulting, and media relations firm.β€œWhat fascinates me the most about this profession is the fact that every day is a different day because my work is determined by what’s happening in the news,” says Delmarie. β€œI’ve been doing this for more than 30 years and I’m still not bored. I must keep reading and learning about the issues which affect us all.”Homing in on our topic, Delmarie advises Black business owners to seek partners who bring different skillsets that complement their own.β€œAs founders, we don’t have to recreate the wheel in order to be successful,” says Delmarie. β€œAnd if you try to do it all, some things won’t get done and some things will get messy. I wish I had known this when I started.”Watch the full interview for more compelling sound bites from Delmarie Cobb into how Black founders can leverage today’s business trends for success.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ€™ If you want a free 30-minute Business Strategy call on how to build your brand and take your business to the next level, schedule a call with us: https://diverse.visionready.org/strategy πŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.instagram.com/visionreadyinc https://www.linkedin.com/company/visi... πŸ“Ί Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt Your Day: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDX... VisionReady Network: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS0-... Listen on your FAV platform: https://disruptyourday.buzzsprout.com πŸ“° Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://diverse.visionready.org/newsl... You're only one connection away from success. Tune in for Episode#3 of Season 3, when Pon Angara, VisionReady’s Creative Director and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with Sheryl Soukup, Founder and President of Soukup Strategic Solutions, providing nonprofit organizations with expertise in fundraising, nonprofit management, marketing, and grants management. Sheryl founded the company in 2012 because she had been working for many years in nonprofits and felt that she could have a better impact if she worked with many nonprofits instead of just one. "I found that consulting work was something that allowed me to use my strengths in a way that was very beneficial for our clients and very rewarding for me," says Sheryl. "Over time, I realized that there were many other consultants who could do the same thing so I decided that instead of just being a consultant myself that I would grow a business that matched consultants with nonprofits that needed that special expertise." Sheryl’s North Star in managing her business and leading her staff comprises three pillarsβ€”strategy, culture, and process. In our interview, she breaks them down even further to define specific goals and tasks. β€œFor Q1, I'm reporting on the strategic plan for everyone in the company to get the big picture and create fun ways to bring that plan to life throughout the year,” Sheryl points out. β€œWe're growing so we also need to prepare training videos for onboarding new staff sometime in Q3.” Watch the full interview for more insight from Sheryl Soukup into what it takes to have a laser-focused approach to starting the year with a clear strategy for your business. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ€™If you want a free 30-minute Business Strategy, call on how to build your brand and take your business to the next level, schedule a call with us: https://diverse.visionready.org/strategy  πŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.instagram.com/visionreadyinchttps://www.linkedin.com/company/visi... πŸ“Ί Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt Your Day: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDX... VisionReady Network: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS0-... Listen on your FAV platform: https://disruptyourday.buzzsprout.com πŸ“° Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter:

Comedy & Entrepreneurship: Both Take Courage to Take Necessary Risks
Tune in today for the Second Episode of our Special Edition: Champagne & French Fries when Petula Sankarsingh, VisionReady CEO and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with B. Cole, comedian, actor, director, writer, producerβ€”Chicago’s very own. Starting his career at a young age B. Cole has performed at clubs and colleges all over the United States. He made his television debut at the age of twenty on BET’s Comic View, hosted by D. L. Hughley. B. Cole reached a pinnacle when he was awarded his own one-hour Grandstand Special on BET’s Comic View. He was a founding member of The Second City’s first urban sketch comedy ensemble Forgotten City. "Growing up, I was a shy kid, but when you’re surrounded by people that you feel comfortable with, they get to see the real you," says Cole. "So, I started with a small circle of friends who knew my unique sense of humor and they encouraged me to make it in comedy." B. Cole has captured audiences across the country with his original side-splitting, thought-provoking material. He has toured U.S. military bases throughout Japan and here in the states. His internationally acclaimed signature comical piece, β€œI’m in Love with a Crack Head” a satirical love poem, inspired B. Cole to develop the concept into a short film. β€œEvery comedian has another comedian who they look up to and who inspired themβ€”Richard Pryor, Eddy Murphy, George Carlinβ€”they taught me how to be funny,” points out Cole. β€œBut the person who truly encouraged me to get up on stage was Damon Wayans.” In 2002 one of B. Cole’s biggest accomplishments is when he was invited to share the stage with musical genius, Prince, accompanied by Common and Macy Gray! β€œMy advice to the youth is that every time they are confronted by a hurdle on their path to pursue their dreams, they must stay honest to themselves,” says Cole. β€œDon’t worry about conforming to what others expect or want you to be just to fit in. You have to be yourself. And you have to give yourself enough time to do that.”Facebook/B.Cole Instagram @bcolecomedianTikTok @bcolecomedianYouTube/bcolefilmsSupport our fundraiser: https://visionready.org/champagne-french-fries/πŸ“Ί Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt Your Day: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDXw2bcMzqPJ486aSFJ0hQ Listen on your FAV platform: https://disruptyourday.buzzsprout.comπŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc www.instagram.com/visionreadyhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/visionready πŸ“° Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://diverse.visionready.org/newsletter You're only one connection away from success. Sports + Entrepreneurship Give Youth-Owned Businesses a Dynamic Model for Success
Tune in today for the First Episode of our Special Edition: Champagne & French Fries when Petula Sankarsingh, VisionReady CEO and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with LaVonte Stewart, Executive Director of Lost Boyz Inc, providing sports-based youth development to help boys and girls in Chicago’s under-resourced neighborhoods develop confidence, resilience, and life skills."I never had any intention of starting a nonprofit organization," says Stewart. "I was a volunteer coach for a youth baseball league, and I was inspired by my experience as a kid playing in our little league. As a dad, I wanted to coach my own kids and hopefully make an impact on someone else’s kids.”Having been raised in a middle-class family, Stewart did not experience poverty. According to him, the negative experiences in his life came out of some of the choices he had made, but also helped to shape who he is today.β€œIn retrospect, I understand how this path also gave me credibility to carry out what would eventually become my mission,” adds Stewart. β€œI was able to gather all the resilience I’ve developed through the years to overcome challenges and to pave a similar path for younger people.β€β€œSports is a powerful catalyst for mental and emotional healing because it involves multiple aspects that support positive transformation for the mind and body,” Stewart reminds us. β€œGiving our youth the opportunity to learn how to be an entrepreneur, to own a business, act responsibly as a business owner, and have the resources to contribute to positive change will go a long way in setting up this next generation to rebuild their community.”"We’re developing youth-owned micro-enterprises and we’re grateful for VisionReady sponsoring our kids to participate in the Young Emerging Successors (YES) program to help them realize their vision as young entrepreneurs driving the change they want to see in their community," says Stewart.Support our fundraiser: https://visionready.org/champagne-french-fries/πŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc www.instagram.com/visionreadyhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/visionready πŸ“° Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://diverse.visionready.org/newsletter You're only one connection away from success. Don’t Leave Money on the Table. Get Certified! | S2: Ep7
Tune in today for our Seventh Episode of Season 2 when Petula Sankarsingh, VisionReady CEO and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with Liz Coalts, Owner of The Anxious Adult, LLC helping smart and overwhelmed adults manage the anxieties of business and life. "Let me help you manage the logistics of your business so you can focus on the parts you love," is her business tagline. As an experienced vendor and contract manager working in the public sector for over 15 years, Liz has deep perspective on the challenges that diverse owned businesses face in trying to level the playing field for equal access to contracts. "For private corporations, change has to happen from within," says Coalts. "They need to understand that they should be trying to diversify their supply chain and give more opportunities to small businesses owned by minorities, women, LGBTQ, disabled veterans, and other diverse segments of the population." Liz encourages small businesses to take advantage of the fact that local governments have been mandated for some time now to diversify their supply chain. The key for a business to gain an edge over the competition is by becoming certified. "Although the procurement would be an open call, most public agencies and some private corporations prefer to work with companies that are certified in at least one diverse category in order to meet the agencies’ diversity goals," points out Coalts. "Being certified makes you the preferred vendor in any opportunity. When the competition gets heated, you need every advantage you can get!"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ€™ If you want a free 30-minute Business Strategy call on how to build your brand and take your business to the next level, schedule a call with us: https://diverse.visionready.org/strategy πŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc www.instagram.com/visionreadyhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/visionready πŸ“Ί Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt Your Day: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDXw2bcMzqPJ486aSFJ0hQ VisionReady Network: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS0-qIuOWuQNgzhHepXb83A  πŸ“° Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://diverse.visionready.org/newsletter You're only one connection away from success. Draw Your Power from Adversity and LossTune in today for our Fifth Episode of Season 2 when Petula Sankarsingh, VisionReady CEO and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with Amy Jorgensen, Founder of Blocked Emotions Energy Healing where she imparts her strength, wisdom, and knowledge to guide others through hardships in life. Following the conventional college education path to the most enthralling job as a pilot in the Air Force, Amy was raising the bar for women wanting to pursue their dreams fearlessly. "Joining the military was my first taste of getting into a gender-oriented field," recounts Amy. "When you show up and the others realize that the person in charge is female, they expect you to prove to them that you can run this crew. If you’re a guy, they don’t care if you’re incompetent, but if you’re a woman, you’re held to a higher standard." On her journey, Amy learned firsthand how gender bias shows up in all aspects of life, how to stand up for herself, how to survive the pain of loss, and how to rise above the artificial standards that society imposes on our true nature. It was a journey that eventually helped Amy to awaken and celebrate her authentic self, and it aligned her with her purpose and passion. "Our biggest trials and our most difficult suffering bring us the greatest growth," says Amy. There’s so much to unpack from this podcast and we’re sure it will be one of your favorites from Disrupt Your Day.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ€™ If you want a free 30-minute Business Strategy call on how to build your brand and take your business to the next level, schedule a call with us: https://diverse.visionready.org/strategy πŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc www.instagram.com/visionreadyhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/visionready πŸ“Ί Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt Your Day: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDXw2bcMzqPJ486aSFJ0hQ VisionReady Network: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS0-qIuOWuQNgzhHepXb83A  πŸ“°  Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://diverse.visionready.org/newsletter You're only one connection away from success. When people know that the leadership buys into something greater than just the bottom line, the stories that are told will inherently be different."Anna is excited about launching her new digital platform called the Qube, a curated app for music and podcasts by BIPOC and QTPOC creatives."I see all the transwomen who are murdered, then mainstream media commits a disservice by misgendering them, and that is not acceptable," Anna points out. "That doesn’t change without people being in power who have some type of value and stake in telling that person’s story and understanding their humanity in it."Anna DeShawn is determined to ride media into its next era by utilizing online radio streams to tell the stories and play the music that needs to be heard.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ€™  If you want a free 30-minute Business Strategy call on how to build your brand and take your business to the next level, schedule a call with us: https://diverse.visionready.org/strategy πŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc www.instagram.com/visionreadyhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/visionready πŸ“Ί Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt Your Day: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDXw2bcMzqPJ486aSFJ0hQ VisionReady Network: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS0-qIuOWuQNgzhHepXb83A  πŸ“°  Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://diverse.visionready.org/newsletter You're only one connection away from success. "This stems from the discrimination that still exists for members of the community."Kim also serves as the Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy Operations at AFC building relationships among stakeholders and a culture that enables inclusion and innovation by ensuring that all participants can fully participate in co-creating ideas and community."Government agencies need to realize that there is so much diversity within the LGBTQ+ community," points out Kim. "Business Certification is a great way to drive the data to help agencies see where "we" count so small business owners within our community can gain the same benefits as other certified businesses."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ€™  If you want a free 30-minute Business Strategy call on how to build your brand and take your business to the next level, schedule a call with us: https://diverse.visionready.org/strategy πŸ”— Join the conversation on social media: https://twitter.com/VisionReadyInc https://www.facebook.com/VisionReadyInc www.instagram.com/visionreadyhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/visionready πŸ“Ί  Subscribe to our YouTube Channels: Disrupt Your Day: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDXw2bcMzqPJ486aSFJ0hQ VisionReady Network: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS0-qIuOWuQNgzhHepXb83A  πŸ“°  Stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter: https://diverse.visionready.org/newsletter You're only one connection away from success. Tune in today for Episode#8 when Petula Sankarsingh, VisionReady CEO and Disrupt Your Day Host, chats with Prajakta Apte, RDN, RYT, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at Right Nutrition Works. She helps clients create a healthier lifestyle by offering evidence-based personalized nutrition counseling with roadmaps based on personal needs and goals, not on broad recommendations.Prior to starting her own practice, Prajakta worked in a hospital serving patients seeking advice on dietary options to help manage their cholesterol, weight loss, and diabetes. Eventually, she realized that their goal was solely to get discharged as quickly as possible. "Patients were interested only in a short-term solution, not in a long-term plan to help them improve their overall health," said Prajakta. "This situation pushed me to start my own private practice so that I could work with individuals who were motivated to achieve their goals on a journey toward better health."In the area of work-life balance, she comes close to practicing what she preaches: "I’m a strong believer in taking small baby steps in growing your business, learn from the experience, gain confidence, then take the next small step," Prajakta points out.
