IMOGEN CLARK Interview - Australian / Nashville Singer Songwriter

IMOGEN CLARK Interview - Australian / Nashville Singer Songwriter
New PODCAST RELEASE - INTERVIEW with Australian Singer / Songwriter (and now resident of Nashville) IMOGEN CLARK! Rob and Matt had a great fun conversation with the greatly talented Imogen Clark.   We had a ton of laughs (which is always a good thing). Besides bringing up Springsteen, Colin Hay, Sheena Easton and Sheryl Crow we talk about her big move to Nashville, the inspiration behind her newest video for THE NOISE, the time she played a mining town of only men, writing and recording with Colin Hay (Men at Work) and much much more! ******** JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IMOGEN CLARK: From an early age, Imogen's life was steeped in music. From just eight years old, she was trained as an opera singer, the foundation for her roof-raising vocal power and range. By the age of twelve, she had transitioned to the guitar and piano and the start of her songwriting journey.  Raised on a cocktail of Bruce Springsteen and Violent Femmes, her musical palette expanded with influences from contemporary artists like HAIM, Maggie Rogers, and the indomitable Taylor Swift. Her father, a former punk rocker and now retired high school teacher, also played a pivotal role in shaping her musical inclinations. His influence, combined with her own experiences, gave birth to a unique and timeless sound, blending pop-rock and indie-pop.  Imogen’s determination is evidenced by her achievements of the last three years, especially her two acclaimed EPs, 2020’s "The Making of Me" and the AIR-nominated 2021’s "Bastards". After recording “Bastards” over Zoom amidst the COVID lockdowns in Sydney, Imogen was determined to flip the script completely for her album. After writing over a hundred songs, she embarked on a musical pilgrimage, traveling to cities that have inspired her musically - London, Nashville, and Los Angeles. This journey took her to some of the world’s most iconic recording spaces including Peter Frampton’s Studio Phenix in Nashville, Abbey Road in London, and East West in Los Angeles, where the legendary "Pet Sounds" was recorded. The forthcoming album “The Art of Getting Through” is proudly genre-agnostic, encapsulating Imogen’s range as a songwriter and recording artist. The lyrics are her most bracingly personal and vulnerable, the music more powerful and anthemic than ever. From navigating her identity to touching on the shadows of an eating disorder, each of Imogen's songs unfold like a chapter in a deeply personal diary, capturing moments, memories, and confessions from her journey.  It’s no wonder collaborators from Alex Lahey to Colin Hay to Steve Poltz to members of Gang of Youths, Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello’s Imposters, Dawes, My Morning Jacket and more have lined up to collaborate with an artist whose dynamism, relentless creativity and striving to be the most fully evolved version of herself, both in and out of the studio, shows her as a force to be reckoned with, and one who is just getting started. ************ You can find IMOGEN at imgogenclarkmusic.com.au , Facebook and Instagram (@imogenclarkmusic) Be sure to look for her upcoming 3rd studio album "The Art of Getting Through" on May 31st, 2024!  ************ KNOW GOOD MUSIC can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts.     If you go to www.linktr.ee/knowgoodmusic you can find all the links to the podcast platforms we are on.    Visit our YouTube Channel where you can see video promos from some of our interviews.  Just search "know good music"." STEVE HACKETT Interview - Legendary PROGRESSIVE ROCK Guitarist for GENESIS and GTR
Apr 20 2024
STEVE HACKETT Interview - Legendary PROGRESSIVE ROCK Guitarist for GENESIS and GTR
Matt and Rob sit down with the legendary progressive rock guitarist, Steve Hackett formerly of GENESIS and GTR Steve talks about his current tour (recently winding down) called FOXTROT AT FIFTY, what the term progressive means, what John Lennon said about Genesis, his incredible new album "The Circus and the Nightwhale" and more. We had 30 minutes to talk to Steve which in itself is incredible since he was in the middle of a tour of the US. ******** JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT STEVE HACKETT: Steve Hackett is renowned as an immensely talented and innovative rock musician. He was lead guitarist with Genesis as part of their classic line up with Gabriel, Collins, Banks and Rutherford, that produced acclaimed albums such as Selling England by the Pound (a favourite of John Lennon). With Steve's extraordinary versatility in both his electric guitar playing and his composing, he involves influences from many genres, including Jazz, World Music and Blues. He is equally adept in his classical albums that include renditions of pieces by composers from Bach to Satie, his own acoustic guitar compositions that have gained the admiration of many, including Yehudi Menuhin, and ambitious guitar/ orchestra albums such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic.   With Genesis, Steve's guitar playing produced some of the most memorable moments, from the sensitivity of his acoustic sound on Horizons and Blood on the Rooftops to the dramatic rock guitar solos of Firth of Fifth and Fountain of Salmacis. As he embarked on his solo career he developed his exceptional range, pushing musical boundaries into exciting areas, inventing new sounds and also techniques such as 'tapping'. His solo career went from strength to strength and the mid eighties not only saw the hit single Cell 151, but also the Steve Hackett and Steve Howe super group GTR, highly successful in America. ************ You can find STEVE at hackettsongs.com, Facebook and Instagram (@stevehackettofficial)  Be sure to listen to his incredible new album THE CIRCUS AND THE NIGHTWHALE! Just search "know good music"."
ISMAY (Avery Hellman) Interview - Hardly Strictly Bluegrass / Finding Lucinda

ISMAY (Avery Hellman) Interview - Hardly Strictly Bluegrass / Finding Lucinda
Matt and Rob sit down with ISMAY to talk about their new album Desert Pavement.   We go into other topics like the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival (in which their grandfather founded and their family still runs), the documentary Finding Lucinda (about the great singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams), Ismay's time working on a ranch with they're mother, the Stranger in the Barn video (and the puppet!) and much more! We had such a great time talking to ISMAY.  They are such a down to earth beautiful soul you won't want to miss this interview!  ... and who doesn't like talking about puppets ?  ******** A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ISMAY AND THEIR NEWEST RELEASE: For Avery Hellman, the Bay Area native behind ISMAY’s unique sound, the album builds a bridge between past and present. "I create music that's informed by older traditions and makes you feel the way old folk music does," they say, "but it doesn't sound like something you've heard before." Like Songs of Sonoma Mountain, ISMAY’s critically acclaimed debut, Desert Pavement was heavily influenced by the California ranch where Hellman spent most of their 20s working the land. "My mom bought the ranch when I was 19 years old," Hellman remembers. "Environmental restoration was very important to her, and I was with her every step of the way, working to develop the ranch, raise cattle, replant creeks, and tend to the sheep. The perspective of my songwriting is very rooted in ranch life." ************ You can find ISMAY at www.ismaymusic.com , Facebook and Instagram (@ismaymusic) Be sure to listen to their great new album DESERT PAVEMENT today! Just search "know good music"."

ERIC BAZILIAN of THE HOOTERS Interview / Cyndi Lauper / Joan Osbourne
I grew up watching MTV as a teen (and beyond) and one band that stood out for me were THE HOOTERS (A Philadelphia PA band that looked fun and lyrically different with lines and melodies you'd remember for a long time).   Who can forget the songs "And We Danced", "All You Zombies", "Day by Day" and "Hanging on a Heartbeat" ? It was a great honor to finally talk to Eric Bazilian! The Hooters just got off a tour with Rick Springfield & Tommy TuTone. ********* Matt and I (rob) talk to Eric about:  - Eric's beginnings at age 10 with his band The Limestones - Being a huge part of the monumental debut album from Cyndi Lauper (Eric wrote and played the guitar riff for Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; his partner Rob Hyman wrote Time After Time with Cyndi) - We find out how the HOOTERS got their name and Eric even shows us and plays us his very own Hooter - The creation of Joan Osbourne's hit song "one of us" (in which Eric wrote) - Eric's connection to Sweden - How The Hooter's are big in Germany (move over David Hasselhoff!) - Paul Stanley  - The Philly Taco  and much much more! ************ You can find Eric (or the Hooters) on Facebook & Instagram. DAVE SWIFT Interview - Bass Player with Jools Hollands Rhythm & Blues Orchestra / Later with Jools Holland

DAVE SWIFT Interview - Bass Player with Jools Hollands Rhythm & Blues Orchestra / Later with Jools Holland
Dave Swift may not be a household name but he's shared the stage with legendary musicians such as Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Cher, Joss Stone, Eric Clapton, Roger Daughtry, Paul Simon ... and those are just a few.  He's been a member of Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 1991 and also a with the house band on Later with Jools Holland (one of the top tv shows in the UK) He's been called by Bass Guitar magazine as  "one of UK's top bassists" We had a great conversation with Dave and probably one of our longest interviews.  We covered a lot of ground from Dave's early beginnings learning his first instrument (not the bass) to auditioning for Jools Holland and recently recording with Rod Stewart for his upcoming album.  There's a lot in between and some great stories from Dave about some legendary musicians he's worked with.  Like the time they needed a guitar player to fill in (for the house guitarist) when Smokey Robinson was set to do a live show... you won't beleive who they got to fill in.   We thank Dave for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk to us.  He's currently on tour and also in rehearsals for the tv show so he's got a lot going on.  Dave was such a pleasure to talk to and you'll hear it in his voice how serious he is about what he does and the love for his art of making music. At the end of the interview we did ask some "non-music" questions and when we got into food you would not believe it but we ended up talking about cheeses (like our last interview).. this may be a new thing .. or not ..  ************ A little about Dave Swift: Since joining Jools Holland and His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1991, Dave Swift has established himself as one of the UK’s finest, high-profile bass players. In his career, which expands beyond three decades, Dave boasts a musician’s portfolio that seconds no other. Dave Swift has played for an array of renowned artists, from George Benson, Chaka Khan, Eric Clapton to Amy Winehouse, Adele and Paul Simon.   Over the years he has performed at many prestigious events, such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Dubai International Jazz Festival, Blue Note Tokyo, Amnesty International, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Glastonbury Music Festival, and a G8 Conference for world leaders, which included former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and President Bill Clinton. Additional performances include the Millennium Night celebration at the Millennium Dome for Her Majesty the Queen and a sell-out concert at the Sydney Opera House during their 2008 tour of Australia and New Zealand. Dave Swift is currently on a UK tour with the Jools Holland Band throughout this month and December.  Joss Stone will join them on some dates along with Rod Stewart (who will show up for some shows as a surprise guest)   *********** You can find Dave on Instagram and be sure to check out his website at : daveswiftbass.com KNOW GOOD MUSIC can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts.     If you go to www.linktr.ee/knowgoodmusic you can find all the links to the podcast platforms we are on.     Visit our YouTube Channel where you can see 2 video segments from some of our interviews.  Just search "know good music".
