Dan Keldsen - Stay Curious
You may know Dan Keldsen from his previous work through interviews, articles, and books, like BizTechTalk (audio only podcast from 2006 to 2008), IAM Talking (audio only podcast from 2008 to 2012), and The Gen Z Effect – best-selling book published in 2014, with co-author Tom Koulopoulos.Dan Keldsen is currently the co-founder of two companies, PlexiCam.com - a remarkably simple, nearly invisible “UnTripod” built to help people get the eye-to-eye human contact we’re all missing from the pandemic lockdown without the high cost, complexity and desk space of tripods, and traditional video gear. And Veventaas.com - which stands for virtual events as a service, which delivers high-end virtual events without the wallet-breaking cost of a Vegas or New York production crew.Recently Dan launched a new podcast, Next Future Today which can be found on your favorite podcast platform, as well as the website NextFutureToday.com.Connecting with DanLinkedInA Quote I LOVE From This Episode "Stay curious, people."About Your Host, Scott J. Patti leads an expert team of communication consultants and creative writers who help clients move their audiences in one powerful moment or in a movement over time.Quotes I LOVE From This Episode!Regarding effective slides - "We call that the glance test - three seconds or less...If you're zooming down the highway, and you can't figure out what that billboard is saying, then it's not effective at communicating in a glance - and the same is true of a slide.""I think the principles that make for effective presentations face to face also apply to virtual presentations. But that's just table stakes.""When you vary things within your presentation, whether that's the actual content on your slides, the look of the slides, or your tone of voice, it draws your audience back in because we're just trained to be on the alert for something that's changing and so that's a hack that you can use.""Anything that is seen within the camera's field of view, is a device that you can use to reinforce your message. So just hold your hands up a little higher and use your hands to amplify your feeling like, hands-on heart to show how much affection you feel."About Your Host Scott J. And I think it allows time for discussion, input, and analysis - not just consumed by PowerPoint presentations.""So what I've seen is the volume of slides. Sometimes people try to shove in too many slides in a 30-minute presentation...they're talking so quickly, and they're moving one slide after the other. And it's frustrating because you feel like you're almost held hostage...and it's just no fun."About Your Host Scott J. Allen, Ph.D.Scott is the Standard Products—Dr. James S. You basically have six minutes and 40 seconds to give a presentation on any topic that you like. And after doing this for 15 years, I can tell you that I've seen some of the most powerful presentations I've ever seen in my life in six minutes.""It comes down to this: how simple can you make your message?""Everyone is on an equal playing field... we've had the CEO of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) speak, and the next presenter was a 14-year-old graffiti artist. And on that piece of card, it says 'Getting really comfortable' And then I turn the card over and the back, and it says, 'with judgment.' Instead of using a PowerPoint or a slideshow, I'm holding up this card.""Anything on a screen is designed to get our attention....anything really - Netflix, TV, a website, an app, a mobile phone - any screen. And they are all in because you are ruling that space, and they're measuring you against you. If you go to where they live, you will always be a second-class citizen, because you can never be as good as them at being them.""The bigger shift is that your audience has moved from being a passive observer to an active participant...you give your audience permission to engage.
