Fiction podcasts allow audiences to experience programs that hearken back to the golden age of radio. Red Valley is a sci-fi mystery podcast. It focuses on the ethical limits of science. While the story is compelling, it asks listeners to contemplate hard questions. Just how far should humanity go in the name of exploration and research? Is cryogenics an ethical science, or a way for the hyper-rich to cheat death while the poor suffer? This fictional podcast series tries to provide answers.
The podcast focuses on Warren Godby, a recent hire at the company Overhead. He sets out to find a seed vault on the orders of his superiors, but he begins to think the location is non-existent. Godby then encounters Gordon Porlock, an archivist whose goal is to expose the site known as Red Valley. The two set off to Glencoe, Scotland to uncover the horrific truth about who they really work for. They also discover how far their employers will go to hide their nefarious secrets.
The podcast's writer and creator is Jonathan Williams. He serves as codirector along with Alan Mandel. Williams is also Godby's voice actor, while Mandel portrays Porlock. This is a passion project for the both of them. They are part of several aspects of the series. Their voice acting is excellent and helps to bring the characters to life.
Listener discretion is advisable for younger listeners. The show contains adult language, and many character deaths occur throughout the series. Many of these involve medical procedures. Because of this, some of the content on Red Valley may be too intense for a younger audience.
