Our Editor's Take

The Wicked Library podcast will most likely give its listeners a nightmare-filled sleep. It shares stories of terrifying natures and graphic narratives. They detail anything from pain, murder, and brutality to backstabbing and inhumanity. They never have a happy ending. The protagonists often die, and the evil creatures triumph. However, not all is grim and depressing. In those tales of horror and atrocity, there's also plenty of emotion and, most of all, catharsis. It's the liberating feeling that none of it is real. The listeners have complete control over being afraid, and if they choose to stop, they can at any time.

Each episode of The Wicked Library presents its listeners with a new, thrilling tale. They take place in dystopian futures, distant planets, or virtual realities. The protagonists range from brilliant scientists to brave teenage girls. They all have some monster to fight, whether it's aliens, mutant wildlife, or their friends.

Each story on the podcast is a captivating adventure from a different author. Some are fans of time travel, while others enjoy writing about government conspiracies. Some stories go from one action scene to another, while others are slow and insidious. The beauty of the podcast is that the listener never knows what they'll get. They can rest assured that it will always frighten them.

What makes The Wicked Library so skin-crawlingly good is its masterful production. Of course, the featured authors know how to write enticing tales. The combination of expert voice acting with masterful sound design elevates the material even more. Each narrator has their own unique style that captures the listeners' attention. They know exactly where to use a soft-spoken tone and when to raise urgency. The addition of music composed especially for the podcast creates an eerie atmosphere. It builds a new, suspenseful world, which exists only between the compounds of listeners' headphones.
